Job Description
Ready for What's Next? Kratos Defense & Security Solutions develops and fields transformative, affordable technology, platforms, and systems for United States National Security related customers, allies, and commercial enterprises. We proactively build trusted relationships with our peers, partners and customers, and take ownership for our actions-always striving to do the right thing. Kratos is seeking a Software Engineer. The position will support dynamic, agile projects implementing firmware designs across all phases of the development lifecycle, to include design, development, test, and operational support / user feedback. The ideal candidate must be able to work independently as well as within a team setting on the design, implementation, and maintenance/troubleshooting of new and existing software solutions.
The candidate must be self-motivated, be a self-learner, and able to work well within a dynamic schedule. Candidate must show ability to effectively communicate with various team members, customers, as well as communicate with vendor support. Candidate must be able to leverage modern industry standard technologies for engineered solutions and be able to provide status of design efforts. This candidate may be expected to support more than one project at a time, bringing their knowledge and experience to help not only their primary project but be able to support other projects address critical issues and challenges.
This position is available in beautiful Colorado Springs, CO, and the candidate needs to be willing to travel approximately 10%.

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, and skills.
Competitive salary based on experience and education
Salary Range: $120,000-$170,000

Experience and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, technical degree preferred
- 5+ years of experience in software development
- Strong understanding of object oriented software design and engineering principles/practices
- Experience developing multi-threaded C/C++ in a Linux and/or Windows environment
- Experience with the Visual Studio development environment for Linux or Windows
- Familiarity with networking concepts and protocols (IP, TCP, UDP)
- Experience with GUI development in Flash, ActionScript, MFC, HTML5, JavaScript, C#
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python
- Experience with Agile development methodologies
- Experience with software configuration management tools such as Git/BitBucket or Subversion
- Familiarity with best systems engineering practices
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively work in a multi-disciplined team including Software, Firmware, and Hardware engineers (IPT environment)
- Ability to learn, take ownership, and deliver high-quality results in a dynamic environment
- Experience in scoping effort to accomplish a task
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Software Driver development
- Network, Multi-threaded, client-server programming Embedded Software / System Development Experience
- Docker/Container & Kubernetes design and implementation knowledge and experience on premise and cloud
- Experience interfacing/integrating with firmware based FPGAs
- Ability to work directly with customers
- Experience using and understanding non-volatile storage technologies such as EEPROM, NVRAM, and ROM
