Job Details

Job Duties:
  • Have working knowledge of federal and state court systems, civil litigation, civil discovery, legal research procedures and resources, and financial fraud investigations.
  • Provide moderately complex paralegal support to AUSAs, including gathering factual material, summarizing case files, analyzing documents, managing records and discovery, reviewing financial case data, preparing subpoenas and discovery demands, and assisting in trial preparation and legal research. Utilize software such as Eclipse and Everlaw for document review, analysis, and legal research.
  • Operate electronic systems and court presentation software during court proceedings, including familiarity with ECF/Pacer systems.
  • Assist AUSAs in producing discovery to opposing counsel.
  • Organize and coordinate discovery distribution, including indexes and production logs.
  • Provides assistance to AUSAs in trial preparation by independently compiling trial notebooks, preparing jury instructions, and drafting witness and exhibit lists.
  • Maintains, manages, and organizes case material utilizing software, including databases, spreadsheets, and word processing applications.
  • Works with Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs), federal law enforcement officers, client agencies and support staff to prepare cases for litigation.
  • Participates in interviews of potential witnesses and draft reports.
  • Assist in secure storage, preservation, organization, and indexing of evidence and support in compiling and analyzing documents and physical evidence for presentations, motions, and trials.
  • Up to 10% of the time, occasional travel may be necessary for cases, special projects, and/or training list all job duties and responsibilities.

Qualifications:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization. Note: ship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study, or an equivalent level of legal training or experience; or an equivalent level of education may be substituted
  • Additionally at least two years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) is required. At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.
  • Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
  • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems. Role also requires hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.
  • Work location is Columbia, SC USAO's.
