Position Title: Fortinet Network Engineer Architect (Contract to Hire)

Location: Ann Arbor, MI 48108
Engagement Type: 6-Month Contract to Hire
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Start Date: ASAP
Work Arrangement: Onsite (Ann Arbor, MI)

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Fortinet Network Engineer to design, implement, and maintain a secure, reliable, and high-performing network infrastructure. This role will focus on leveraging Fortinet technologies including FortiGate firewalls, FortiSwitch, and FortiAP to enhance the organization s connectivity, cybersecurity posture, and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Fortinet and Cisco networking technologies, excellent documentation skills, and a methodical approach to configuration and deployment. Candidates with network architecture experience are highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fortinet Security Fabric Deployment: Implement and manage the Fortinet Security Fabric, integrating FortiGate firewalls, switches, and wireless access points into a cohesive and secure platform.
  • Network Design & Architecture: Design scalable and secure network architectures to support enterprise environment, digital transformation, and operational technology needs.
  • Configuration & Implementation: Configure, deploy, and troubleshoot Fortinet and Cisco networking devices while ensuring minimal disruption and maximum reliability.
  • Migration Projects: Lead or assist in migration efforts from Cisco-based infrastructure to Fortinet environments, ensuring seamless transition and zero unplanned downtime.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Transfer: Maintain detailed network documentation, configurations, and change logs. Provide knowledge transfer to internal teams for long-term network sustainability.
  • Monitoring & Maintenance: Oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and monitoring of network performance, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
  • Security & Threat Management: Apply cybersecurity best practices using Fortinet and related tools (FortiGuard, DPI, IPS) to defend against potential threats.
  • Centralized Management: Utilize FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, and other centralized tools for policy management, reporting, and automation.
  • IT/OT Network Integration: Support secure convergence of IT and operational technology networks to improve visibility and performance across Avfuel s industrial environments.
  • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement: Work closely with cross-functional IT and business teams to identify areas for improvement, streamline processes, and enhance overall network operations.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in network administration and engineering.
  • Strong expertise with Fortinet products, including FortiGate, FortiSwitch, FortiAP, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, and FortiNAC.
  • Working knowledge of Cisco networking technologies and experience in Cisco-to-Fortinet migrations.
  • Deep understanding of LAN/WAN, VPN, wireless, and security protocols.
  • Experience configuring, managing, and troubleshooting firewalls, routers, and switches in enterprise environments.
  • Solid grasp of cybersecurity principles, including segmentation, intrusion prevention, and threat mitigation.
  • Proven ability to create detailed network documentation and technical diagrams.
  • Familiarity with network automation and centralized management tools.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  • Certifications such as Fortinet NSE 4 7, CCNA/CCNP, or equivalent experience are a plus.
  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
