Are you a Data Architect looking to shape the future of business intelligence? Join a prestigious Napa Valley wine company and leverage your expertise in Azure, Power BI, and SQL to design, optimize, and secure a high-performing data ecosystem. Located in one of the most beautiful regions in California, this role offers a unique opportunity to combine cutting-edge technology with the heritage of a world-class wine organization.

This role is Contract or Contract-to-Hire, and is Hybrid (3 days/week in-office initially, transitioning to 2 days/week for long-term collaboration).

As the Data Architect, you will guide the design and implementation of a cloud-based data warehouse while collaborating directly with leadership and cross-functional teams. Your primary focus will be on creating scalable, accurate, and secure data solutions to enable critical reporting and analytics, supporting areas such as financial systems, direct-to-consumer platforms (e.g., Shopify), and wine inventory management.

This role serves as a technical leader within the organization, reporting to the CFO, and plays a key part in shaping the future of business intelligence and reporting for a highly reputable Napa-based wine business.

Core Skills:

Data Architecture & Design:
  • Build and refine the architecture of a cloud-based data warehouse on Azure to consolidate disparate systems into a centralized solution.
  • Develop robust data models optimized for scalability, performance, and usability.

Data Ingestion & Transformation:
  • Design and implement Extract, Load, and Transform (ELT) pipelines to securely bring data in from various sources.
  • Ensure that data is transformed into formats ready for actionable insights and analytics.

Business Intelligence & Reporting:
  • Lead the design and programming of dashboards and reports using Power BI, providing stakeholders with real-time analytics and metrics.
  • Work with the finance team to ensure all reporting needs are met, including dashboards displaying consolidated financial data, inventory metrics, and DTC sales insights.

Data Governance & Security:
  • Implement best practices for data security and compliance, including industry standards such as GDPR and CCPA compliance.
  • Use robust measures like encryption, access controls, and audits to safeguard sensitive data.

Optimization & Training:
  • Fine-tune the data warehouse and BI environment for optimal performance and scalability.
  • Train staff across finance, operations, and other teams to effectively use Power BI tools and troubleshoot minor issues.


Requirements

  • Advanced proficiency inPower BI, SQL, and Azure-based data architecture and services.
  • Hands-on expertise in designing and implementing cloud-based data warehouses, ideally using Azure Synapse or similar tools.
  • Proven track record in creating secure, scalable, and high-performing data ecosystems.
  • Practical experience withShopifyintegrations or other direct-to-consumer systems is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting and consolidation processes in collaboration with finance teams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
