Job Title: Release Manager
Location: Markham, ON (4 days onsite per week)
Contract Duration: 6 months to start

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Release Manager to lead and coordinate the delivery of technology initiatives across teams and departments. This role begins with a focus on traditional application release management and evolves into supporting the organization's transition to a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). The ideal candidate will bring a mix of strategic planning, hands-on execution, and Agile coaching to drive alignment, efficiency, and value delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Traditional Application Release Management (Short Term)

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee application releases across multiple teams, systems, and environments.
  • Collaborate with IT operations, development, QA, PMs, and business teams to ensure smooth execution.
  • Maintain and communicate release schedules, resolving dependencies and conflicts.
  • Facilitate release readiness reviews, go/no-go meetings, and post-release retrospectives.
  • Monitor release progress, manage risks/issues, and provide stakeholder updates.

Agile Release Train (ART) Facilitation

  • Serve as a servant-leader for the Agile Release Train (ART), fostering collaboration across teams.
  • Facilitate PI planning, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and other SAFe ceremonies.
  • Partner with Product Management, Solution Architects, and team leads to achieve program-level goals.
  • Escalate impediments and promote continuous improvement.
  • Report ART progress, risks, and metrics to leadership.

Transformation and Process Optimization

  • Lead the transition from traditional release management to SAFe delivery.
  • Develop and maintain scalable processes and frameworks for consistent delivery.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance quality and reduce delivery times.
  • Provide coaching and training on SAFe and Agile practices.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5+ years in release management, IT project management, or Agile coaching.
  • 2+ years in a SAFe environment preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of traditional release management tools and practices.
  • Deep understanding of Agile methodologies, especially SAFe (SAFe RTE certification is an asset).
  • Proficiency in Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar platforms.
  • Excellent organizational and facilitation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $90.00/hr.
