Job Description

his role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of the GM Innovation Centers in Austin, TX or Warren, MI, you are expected to be onsite at least three times per week.

The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Data Engineer to join our Applied Analytics & Insights (AA&I) organization at GM. In this role, you will develop high quality, scalable, and curated data products that power the AA&I Digital & Customer portfolios, with an initial focus on digital product engagement . You will collaborate cross-functionally with product owners, data scientists, and partner teams to develop future-focused, consumer-centric, and prescriptive solutions aimed at enhancing GM's customer experience and profitability.

What You 'll Do

  • Collaborate with analytics delivery and data science teams in a matrixed reporting structure to develop analytics data products .
  • Lead data sourcing, discovery, curation, and analysis activities including developing pipelines and workflows as well as data architectur e and data modeling as needed.
  • Design and develop data products that are compliant with data privacy and security policy to protect and manage customer data.
  • Drive the adoption of cloud-first technologies and industry-standard Data Engineering practices to accelerate and scale engineering .
  • Collaborate with partner teams including data governance, data architecture, release management, operations , and infrastructure as required .
  • Provide rotational on-call support as required .
  • Keep up with new Data Engineering trends and technologies and actively seek ways to improve and innovate, including using GenAI where appropriate .
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and development within the team and the broader data engineering community.


Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 5 + years of hands-on experience delivering enterprise-scale data and analytics solutions using modern hybrid cloud technologies with a focus on data curation for customer data science modeling and reporting .
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent work experience) in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with p ractical experience analyzing and curating large scale customer transactions and event data products from disparate data sources including 1 st party and 3 rd party data with varying formats.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry-standard Data Engineering practices including data privacy & security, ETL/ELT, data architecture, data quality assurance, performance optimization, source code management, release management, and operations .
  • Expert programming skills in data and analytics platforms, big data processing frameworks and languages, and development tools including Azure (or similar), Databricks, Spar k , SQL, Python, and GitHub .
  • Effective communication and people skills , with the ability to work well cross functionally and with technical and non-technical collaborators.
  • Naturally curious and able to work independently and proactively.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.

Compensation:
  • The expected base compensation for this role is: $94,800- $159,600. Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
