Job Summary

The University of Utah's Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) is seeking an Integration and Process Engineer to support the design, integration, and optimization of operational workflows across CTSI service units. This role will focus on aligning project registration, effort tracking, invoicing, and reporting systems to improve efficiency, reduce redundancy, and enhance operational value.

This position will serve as a strategic liaison between the BMIC's technical team and the CTSI's administrative leadership, supporting long-term business process integration and change management initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in process engineering, software implementation, and operational systems integration in a research or academic setting.

It supports investigators through four foundational pillars: Cores and Services, Education and Training, Clinical Research Support, and Administration. Responsibilities

Key Product ResponsibilitiesProject Registration & Cores Integration
  • Lead the integration of CTSI project registration workflows with other systems.
  • Document current-state processes and design future-state workflows to streamline intake and service discovery.
  • Support the implementation of a unified project registration interface for investigators and service providers.

Invoicing & Effort Tracking Optimization
  • Engineer and implement standardized invoicing and effort tracking processes across CTSI Service Recharge Centers (SRCs) and other shared core activities.
  • Collaborate with core directors and administrative staff to align financial tracking with service delivery.
  • Ensure data consistency and reduce duplication through centralized data models.

Project Management & Scheduling Integration
  • Integrate project management tools with scheduling and resource allocation systems.
  • Enable SRCs to forecast capacity and utilization based on real-time project data.
  • Support automation of task assignments and service fulfillment tracking.

Reporting & Data Integration
  • Develop integrated reporting solutions to support CTSI leadership, investigators, and service providers.
  • Facilitate data integration with institutional systems (e.g., IRB, funding databases, directory services, core facility systems).
  • Support long-term goals of capacity planning, utilization analysis, and strategic decision-making.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and at least 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Preferences
  • Bachelor's degree in business process engineering, information systems, biomedical informatics, or a related field. (Master's degree in business operations and management, health administration, or related discipline, ideal.)
  • 3+ years of experience in business process analysis, systems integration, or software implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience with enterprise systems in a research or academic environment.
  • Experience with project management and service desk platforms (e.g., Jira, ServiceNow).
  • Familiarity with research administration systems (e.g., CTMS, LIMS, IRB, EDC)
  • Knowledge of financial systems and invoicing workflows in academic research settings.
  • Experience with data integration tools and APIs.
  • Strong documentation and workflow mapping skills (e.g., BPMN, UML).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with software engineering solutions and experience with programming languages is a definite plus.
