Job Details

ALTA IT Services is seeking an experienced Scrum Master to lead multiple cross-functional Agile teams or a full Agile Release Train (ART) in support of a major health insurance client. This hybrid role, based in Reston, VA, requires hands-on facilitation of agile delivery while driving continuous improvement, agile maturity, and lean-agile practices across the enterprise. You will operate as a servant leader and Lean-Agile champion, guiding teams through the use of Scrum, SAFe, and Kanban frameworks.

Location: Reston, VA (Hybrid - 2-3 days onsite per week)
Pay: $75/HR
Contract Role

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as Scrum Master for multiple Agile teams or as a Release Train Engineer (RTE).
  • Facilitate all Scrum/SAFe ceremonies (Daily Standups, PI Planning, Reviews, Retrospectives, Scrum of Scrums).
  • Guide teams toward iterative delivery aligned with PI objectives.
  • Drive agile maturity, team velocity, flow, and quality using key metrics.
  • Ensure working agreements and Definition of Done (DoD) are understood and followed.
  • Promote problem-solving, continuous learning, and ownership within teams.
  • Foster strong relationships across delivery, UX, architecture, and shared services teams.
  • Represent the team or ART in Scrum of Scrums and program-level ceremonies.
  • Align priorities with Product Owners, Product Management, and Business Stakeholders.
  • Improve communication flow and value delivery across organizational boundaries.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, or related field (or 4+ years additional experience in lieu).
  • 8+ years of professional experience, with at least 3+ years as a Scrum Master or Kanban Lead.
  • Hands-on experience leading Agile teams in a SAFe Agile Release Train environment.
  • Proven success driving agile maturity and delivering improved business outcomes.
  • Deep knowledge of Lean-Agile principles, Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the health insurance or healthcare domain.
  • Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), or SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification.
  • Skilled in change management and continuous improvement leadership.
  • Experience with value stream mapping, system optimization, and Theory of Constraints.
  • Strong understanding of Product Ownership, DevOps, and Test Automation practices.
Skills & Tools:
  • Expert in Agile tools such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, Rally, etc.
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to build metrics dashboards and drive data-informed decisions.
  • Comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
