Network Engineer

Job Purpose:

The Department of Children and Families (the "Department" or "DCF") is seeking qualified candidates that will assist the Office of Information Technology (OITS) in their daily operations, support, and services. The services requested in the following Collaboration will be procured in accordance with the Department of Management Services (DMS) State Term Contract (STC).

Qualifications

Education - Bachelor s or Master s Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field. Or equivalent work experience. (Required).

Certifications:

1. CCIE Enterprise or CCNP Enterprise (Required).

2. AWS Certification, Azure Certification, Palo Alto certification (Highly Suggested).

Programming Languages: Python (Highly Suggested).

Required Experience

1. Bachelor s degree in business administration, Computer Science, Engineering, MBA or related field preferred.

2. Knowledge to identify measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system.

3. Knowledge of Cisco LAN and Routing equipment; Knowledge of Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2012-2022 and client software used to support a LAN/WAN environment.

4. Knowledge of Mainframe Emulation Tools; Knowledge of PC based software; Strong knowledge of Local Area Networks (LAN), DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, SSL, VPN and routing protocols; Strong network troubleshooting skills.

5. Strong knowledge in developing upgrade and implementation plans and working with project team members and management to implement changes.

6. Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions.

7. Ability to communicate effectively with peers, supervisors and customers, verbally and in writing.

8. Ability to follow established policies and procedures.

9. Ability to analyze information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.

10. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast paced, high velocity, environment; ability to stay focused on responsibilities, meet deadlines and manage competing priorities under pressure.

11. Ability to drive effective meetings: workshops, design, and problem-solving sessions.

12. Ability to present ideas in business friendly and user-friendly language; demonstrated aptitude for working with, supporting and communicating with users and customers.

13. Ability to write, maintain, and interpret python scripts

14. Ability to write and maintain documentation on existing and new processes.

15. Ability to configure and maintain Cisco Meraki appliances and dashboards.

Primary Job Duties and Tasks

Collaborate with teams to plan, forecast, and identify resource requirements for network systems, including wireless networks, of moderate complexity.

Participate in the development and design of network architecture and engineering solutions.

Integrate communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission, and signaling protocols into complete network configurations.

Evaluate, deploy, and maintain network systems, including Palo Alto, Cisco, and VOIP solutions.

Implement cloud networking configurations and ensure seamless integration with existing infrastructure.

Monitor protocol compatibility, tune systems for optimal performance, and provide recommendations for improvement.

Develop and document technical standards, best practices, and interface applications for network operations.

Prepare and maintain schematics and documentation for network configurations and system changes.

Ensure compliance with organizational policies and technical standards.

Diagnose and resolve network-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal system performance.

Provide support for network outages, including troubleshooting and repair of hardware and software issues.

Monitor network performance metrics and identify potential issues before they impact operations.

Perform system tuning to enhance network efficiency and scalability.

Work with cross-functional teams to integrate new systems and applications into the network.

Manage and maintain cloud networking environments, ensuring secure and efficient access to cloud services.

Leverage advanced knowledge of cloud infrastructure, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS models.

Implement and manage VOIP systems, ensuring seamless voice communication across the network.

Integrate security measures, including firewalls and authentication protocols, into the network infrastructure.

Ensure network operations meet compliance requirements and industry standards.

Identify, track, and resolve potential risks and vulnerabilities within the network environment.

Utilize in-depth knowledge of Palo Alto, Cisco, and cloud networking tools to deliver robust solutions.

Stay updated with the latest networking technologies and certifications to maintain technical proficiency.
