Our teams partner with tier-1 financial institutions and handle some of the world's largest structured and unstructured financial datasets. As part of this transition, we are investing in our Knowledge Engineering, Ontology, and Graph Data Science capability-and expanding a team that already includes more than 40 specialists globally.
We are seeking both Senior and Mid-Level Ontologists who can help design the next generation of financial knowledge systems that power analytics, automation, and AI/ML products.
Role Overview
As an Ontologist, you will design, implement, and maintain ontologies and knowledge models that structure complex financial concepts, data streams, and workflows. You will work closely with AI, Graph Data Science, Product, Engineering, and multiple internal domain teams to ensure our knowledge frameworks are consistent, scalable, and optimized for intelligent applications.
This role is ideal for individuals excited by large datasets, complex semantic modeling challenges, and the opportunity to influence the AI roadmap of a mature, global financial technology organization.

Key Responsibilities
Ontology & Knowledge Modeling
- Design, build, and evolve domain ontologies covering financial entities, instruments, markets, regulatory concepts, and analytical workflows.
- Develop knowledge graphs and semantic data structures that support AI/ML pipelines, search, recommendation, and reasoning tasks.
- Ensure conceptual alignment across multiple internal product lines and data sources.
- Partner with Graph Data Scientists to integrate ontologies into graph algorithms, embeddings, and intelligent applications.
- Contribute to AI prototypes and production-grade systems that rely on ontology-backed knowledge.
- Participate in the design of context-aware and explainable AI models leveraging graph metadata.
- Define ontology-driven data standards, taxonomies, and controlled vocabularies.
- Map legacy data structures into modern semantic schemas and knowledge graph architectures.
- Work with data governance and engineering teams to ensure scalable, future-proof solutions.
- Collaborate with the Director of AI Initiatives and partner teams across AI, Analytics, Data Engineering, Product, and Architecture.
- Present ontology designs, modeling decisions, and system impacts to senior technical stakeholders.
- Support strategic hiring conversations by shaping capability needs and contributing to technical assessments.
Qualifications
Required (Mid-Level, 4-7 years)
- Master's degree in Ontology, Knowledge Engineering, Semantic Technologies, Information Science, Computer Science, AI, or a related field.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience building ontologies or knowledge models in industry or academia.
- Proficiency with OWL, RDF, SPARQL, SHACL, or similar standards.
- Solid understanding of graph databases (e.g., Neo4j, GraphDB, Stardog, TigerGraph).
- Experience modeling complex domains with high-volume data.
- PhD strongly preferred in Ontology, Knowledge Representation, Semantic Technologies, Logic, Knowledge Science, Linguistics, or related quantitative fields.
- Industry experience delivering ontology-based systems at scale.
- Experience leading ontology or semantic modeling initiatives.
- Ability to influence architectural decisions and guide internal stakeholders.
- Experience working with financial datasets (markets, securities, reference data, risk, ESG, regulatory).
- Exposure to multimodal data integration or AI-driven knowledge systems.
- Familiarity with large-scale data engineering pipelines.
- Ability to work in a globally distributed team environment.
