Automation Technician
Cheraw, SC (onsite)
6 Months Contract
Client is seeking a Robot Operator to provide on-site support for robotics, workstations, and automation systems at a partner location. Responsibilities include operating, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining automated equipment in a warehouse/production environment. This is a hands-on technical role requiring electro-mechanical skills, system knowledge, and strong problem-solving ability. Role may include weekends and variable shifts.
Responsibilities

Operate, monitor, and support robotic and automated systems.

Perform diagnostics, triage, preventative maintenance, and repairs.

Troubleshoot hardware/software issues using manuals, tools, and command-line systems.

Complete installation, configuration, updates, testing, and commissioning of systems.

Address system alerts, errors, and failures to maintain uptime.

Document activities using maintenance management systems (CMMS).

Collect KPIs and metrics to support process and performance improvement.

Provide 2nd-level technical support to technicians as needed.

Communicate directly with partner and vendor support teams.

Follow safety procedures including lockout/tagout and site guidelines.

Participate in technical training and stay current with product documentation.

Assist with shipping, receiving, and handling of automation components.
Requirements

Associate degree, 4-year apprenticeship, or equivalent training/experience in Robotics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electrical fields.

Experience with electro-mechanical systems, automation, and robotics.

Proficiency in system operations, electrical/electronic principles, and software-based controls.

Familiarity with Linux, command-line tools, Java, XML, SQL, and database systems.

Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

Skilled in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and problem resolution.

Experience with CMMS and preventive maintenance procedures.

Comfortable using hand/power tools, hoists, and industrial test equipment.

Strong communication skills; ability to document and report accurately.

Demonstrated ability to multi-task, work independently, and prioritize tasks.

Customer-focused with a professional demeanor in all situations.
Preferred:
-
Vocational or college degree in Robotics, Mechanical, or Electronics.

Experience supporting high-uptime environments or customer facilities.

Background in data entry, customer service, and process improvement.

Experience using Slack, Google Meet, and other digital tools.
Working Conditions
-
Warehouse/production environment with normal lighting, noise, and ventilation.
-
May require variable shifts, weekends, and occasional overtime.

Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, and standing for long periods.

Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and move wheeled objects up to 400 lbs.

May work in tight spaces or robotic corridors with narrow walkways.

Regular use of laptops, hand tools, and test equipment.

Some overnight travel may be required for training or vendor support.
