Position: Data Governance Specialist
Location:Chicago IL(Hybrid)
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Governance Specialist (Consultant) to support the development, enhancement, and maintenance of enterprise data governance policies, standards, and processes. This role is responsible for ensuring governing documentation aligns with internal policies and regulatory expectations. The ideal candidate will work closely with Data Governance Leads,
business stakeholders, and management teams to gather input, develop recommendations, manage governance operations, and document governance-related feedback. This role is instrumental in reinforcing governance discipline, improving data risk management, and supporting enterprise data strategy execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, refine, and maintain enterprise data governance policies, standards, and process documentation in alignment with internal requirements and best practices.
- Ensure all governing documentation (policies, standards, process guides) is current, consistent, and aligned with enterprise data strategy.
- Collaborate with Data Governance Leads, business unit representatives, and key stakeholders to understand needs, gather feedback, and ensure governance deliverables are actionable and relevant.
- Document stakeholder input, policy change requests, and related decisions in a centralized Data Governance Feedback Tracker to ensure transparency and traceability.
- Partner with management and business units to co-develop recommendations for improving governance policies, standards, and frameworks.
- Support internal compliance by aligning governance deliverables with enterprise policies, risk controls, and applicable regulatory standards.
DG Operations (Nice To have): Exception Management: Coordinate the intake, review, tracking, and documentation of policy exception requests. Work with stakeholders and risk teams to ensure exceptions are reviewed and resolved in a timely and compliant manner.
Mailbox Management: Monitor and manage the centralized Data Governance mailbox. Ensure timely triage and resolution of incoming inquiries, requests, and issues, escalating as appropriate.
Data Governance Committee Support:
o Lead the planning and coordination of the Data Governance Committee, including scheduling meetings and coordinating logistics.
o Develop and maintain committee agendas, capturing relevant topics and priorities.
o Create and maintain the Data Governance Committee presentation decks and related materials.
o Follow up with committee members on action items, updates, and deliverables to ensure progress and accountability
Preferred Skills But not required:
Knowledge of data governance frameworks such as DCAM or DAMA DMBOK.
Experience with data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, IBM InfoSphere).
Experience organizing and supporting cross-functional committees or working groups.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Detail-oriented with a commitment to data quality and consistency.
