Title: Symitar Programming Manager

Pay information: Min-point: $79,788.80 / Mid-point: $99,736.00 / Max-point: $119,683.20

Position Status: Full-time, Exempt

Reports To: VP Information Services

Purpose:  The primary purpose of this position is to assist Atlanta Postal Credit Union (APCU) to live out our Mission, "To help our members achieve financial success by providing exceptional products and service."

The Information Services Programming Manager is responsible for the management and delivery of the strategic technical services, capabilities, applications, and processes of our core banking system(s) (Symitar).

  2. Accountable for the development of plans and strategies that provide for the optimization and technical efficiencies of APCU's core banking system (Symitar).
  3. Provides management and oversight of core system programming and for the integration of related software or applications. 
  4. Ensures that policies, procedures, and best practices are in place for program and system integration testing, analysis of results from the test environment, and the recommendation for control procedures.
  5. Conducts reviews of internal projects for impact to processes or procedures, system capability or systems integration related to Symitar.
  6. Reports out on potential obstacles and makes recommendations for modifications, enhancements, or contingency plans associated with identified risks impacting the core banking system. 
  7. Ensures technical specifications of all projects impacting the core banking system are clearly defined. 
  8. Provides for a logical, efficient, and systematic conversion of customer, product, or project related requirements into core banking system solutions including any technical, scheduling, business continuity, or cost constraints.
  9. Provides for an efficient method for the development and maintenance of technical documentation related to programming and customization of the core banking system. 
  10. Provides oversight and management to the IS program management team including coaching, mentoring, performance reviews, and performance development. 
  11. On an annual basis, reports out on, and provides feedback and opinions on, whether core banking systems, processes, and procedures are in place to adequately identify and analyze overall risks and business continuity capabilities.
  12. As related to the position, participates in the coordination of external audits, bank exams and NCUA exams.
  13. Maintains a high degree of objectivity, professionalism, and confidentiality in all performed activities.
  14. Maintains positive working relationships with all departmental leaders, internal and external stakeholders.
  15. Exhibits exceptional critical thinking skills and strong technical aptitude. 
  16. Attend ongoing training as needed, including on and off-site workshops, conferences, and webinars.
  17. Maintains credibility and positive working relationships across all levels of employees and executives within the organization; Consistently communicates a positive message about the Credit Union programming activities.
  18. Effectively uses written and oral communication skills in daily correspondence and completion of tasks. 
  19. Complies with all aspects of BSA/AML and OFAC regulations as they relate to this position.
  20. As required, represents the credit union and its members at external functions, events, or through community service.
  21. The ability to provide oversight for multiple simultaneous projects having an impact on the core banking system. 
  22. Provides input into IS budget plans and project estimates. 
  23. The ability to travel overnight or to other APCU locations as required; non-standard work hours may be required. 
  24. Other duties as assigned. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Manages a staff of 3 - 6 Symitar programmers and application engineers. Also achieves objectives through indirect reporting relationships or through a matrixed management approach collaboratively interacting with internal and external partners.

REQUIRED Education and/or Experience:

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, computer information systems, information technology, computer engineering, related field or an additional 3 years of related progressive IS work experience in lieu of degree
  • 5 years of solid technical background in Symitar (Jack Henry) system programming and administration
  • Minimum of 2 years management or leadership oversight in Information Services

PREFFERED Education and/or Experience:

  • 8 years of solid technical background in Symitar (Jack Henry) system programming and administration in a credit union including extensive knowledge of Symitar's PowerOn customization tool
  • Agile Certification (PMI-ACP, CSM, or equivalent)
  • IT/IS Management Certification
  • 5 years of experience with Jack Henry/Symitar integrations, open banking platform technologies, and digital account opening technologies.
