The IT Multi-Discipline Technician is responsible for providing technical support for faculty, staff, students, researchers, and administrators within the College of Optometry. The position identifies, troubleshoots, and provides outstanding customer support at an advanced technical level for issues with computing systems, printers, peripherals, operating systems, and deployments. The technician works under the direction of the Assistant Director of IT, and in conjunction with, the IT Infrastructure Manager, Network Administrator, and Desktop Support Engineer to resolve complex technical issues requiring escalation. The role involves hardware and middleware server (physical and virtual) support and administration, network and telephony support, and additional support for messaging, desktop management application packaging, desktop and server operating systems, directory services and security, printer administration, and support of other core applications used by the College of Optometry.

The technician also supports the College of Optometry Director of Building Services for electronic physical security devices and ophthalmic testing equipment including: system updates, security patches, and networking. The role provides limited backup to the Health Systems Analyst and Systems Administration Analyst to configure and troubleshoot clinical computing systems for clinical practice management and electronic health record (EHR) system. The technician works with the Instructional & Web Development Specialist to configure and troubleshoot conference room and classroom computing.

The technician will work in conjunction with the rest of IT to monitoring the network and systems for security incidents, analyze security risks, and respond to security incidents to mitigate threats. The role will conduct vulnerability assessment, analyze logs, and respond to immediate threats. This role will play a crucial part in maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information and complying with HIPAA regulations.

The technician responds to helpdesk requests, prioritizes and tracks problems to resolution, and escalates issues as necessary. The role involves maintaining accurate records of hardware and software assets and licensing. The technician trains end-users on the appropriate uses of technology. Knowledge of and follows data security best practices and all applicable policies and/or regulations according to the college and university policy. The technician performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of IT and Director of IT.

The technician must be available to work a flexible schedule, as needed, to accomplish work.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 1 year of relevant experience required.

Pay Range: $20.24 - $26.44

Salary will be based off of education, experience, internal equity, and budget allowance.
