SUMMARY

This position is responsible for analyzing, designing, configuring and maintaining the bank s computing infrastructure and application components. The Senior Systems Engineer will design new systems architecture, monitor and maintain computer networks both on-prem and in the cloud. They will troubleshoot and resolve system errors and inefficiencies and ensure that the computer systems run smoothly and effectively. They will also train junior systems engineers and technicians and act as technical leaders. A Senior Systems Engineer performs a wide variety of evaluation, maintenance, installation and training tasks to ensure the bank s computing systems performance meets company and user satisfaction. They will work closely with the rest of the infrastructure team to stay informed of changes in the environment, provide insight and recommendations regarding designs and implementation plans, and maintain a good understanding of the overall architecture. This individual will be involved in planning, communication, documentation, and implementation tasks related to infrastructure projects. The Systems Engineer III will also serve as an escalation point for support issues and service requests.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

  • Create, update, and maintain documentation as needed
  • Design, configure, and manage system components such as VMWare, servers, SAN, and cloud systems.
  • Design, configure, and manage Windows Active Directory, VMWare vSphere, Backup and Recovery Systems
  • Asist with design of and maintenance of database servers and clusters
  • Assist the network team with virtual and physical network changes as needed.
  • Manage and maintain Hybrid Cloud infrastructure.
  • Business continuity/Disaster recovery planning/testing
  • Proof of Concept and/or integration testing
  • Working with vendors on product design enhancements to integrate new technologies
  • System impact analysis, modeling, server and SAN capacity planning
  • Software/hardware device upgrades, system life cycle management
  • Design and implementation for security technologies and products and enforce CIS Benchmarks
  • Act as a technical resource for projects, ensuring work is being completed accurately and on-time.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend support
  • Monitor the daily ticket queue for infrastructure support items. Responding to inquiries from staff, administrators, service providers, site personnel and outside vendors to provide technical assistance and support.
  • Maintain systems and applications uptime to support the enterprise through rigorous adherence to change control policies, pro-active monitoring for abnormal events, regular maintenance activities and willingness to work after normal business hours to meet the needs of the business.
  • Work with vendors and service providers to ensure a timely resolution during outages, while also maintaining a clear line of communication with the business and other IT staff members about the impact and status. This includes participation in root cause analysis as part of the

  • Continuous learning through training courses and self-study
  • Active participation in team meetings and other activities
  • Travel to community banks, mortgage offices, insurance offices, and other locations will be required when necessary.
  • Some after-hours, weekend work and overnight trips will be expected
  • Completion of all required banking compliance exams on a yearly basis

  • Recommendations to supervisor about possible methods to improve operations
  • Perform other duties as requested by Executive Management or Supervisor

EMPLOYEE SPECIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Work Experience

  • 5 to 10 years experience in System Engineering role
  • Bachelor s degree in computer science or related field preferred
  • Pure SAN, Microsoft SQL server, Microsoft Operating Systems up to and including Windows 2022 Server
  • VMWare technology i.e., vSphere, VCenter, NSX
  • Scripting skills with knowledge of programming languages, such as Perl, Python and PowerShell
  • Azure certification preferred.
  • Good knowledge of networking protocols, such as TCP, IP and OSI
  • Additional certifications a plus (i.e. F5-CA, ITIL, MCSA, VCP, etc.)

Technical/Functional Competencies

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio
  • A strong understanding of programing logic and/or scripting languages
  • MCNE, MSE. MCSA certification is a plus.
  • Desired knowledge and experience:
    • Hardware, software and networking protocols utilized in LAN and WAN
    • Thorough knowledge of LAN switching and router management via SSH and web interfaces
    • Thorough knowledge of TCP/IP communication
    • Experience with Fiber Switches and basic IOS commands
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs without assistance.
  • Ability to climb and work on a ladder
