Metrology Calibration Instrument Technician

Company:

The Boeing Company is seeking an experienced Metrology Calibration Technician to join the Boeing Test & Evaluation team, working in the Metrology and Test Equipment Services (MATES) group in El Segundo, CA. The successful candidate will join a geographically dispersed and multidisciplinary metrology technician team that is responsible for calibration and certification support of advanced manufacturing, satellite production, and test & evaluation activities.

This position will support the metrology technician teams and the associated calibration labs within MATES along with representing the organization as a technical metrology focal across Boeing and to external organizations. This role requires coordination with customers in various business units across the Boeing enterprise to support calibration certification and/or test asset management solutions.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Works from blueprints, schematics, technical manuals and bulletins, National Bureau of Standards, and manufacturers specifications, oral and written instructions
  • Investigates, analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs to component level failures relating to test equipment. Incorporates modifications to test equipment and calibrates to accepted standards
  • Analyzes, repairs, calibrates and modifies standard and non-standard electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical test instruments and equipment. Plans method, schedule, and sequence of calibration of newly acquired instruments and testing equipment
  • Sets up precision electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical measuring and indicating instruments and related devices utilized to test other instruments and test equipment
  • Develops methods, techniques, and procedures for calibrating and certifying the accuracy of various types of instruments and test equipment as compared to secondary standards, working standards, monitoring indicators and other standards classifications for the purpose of minimizing calibration time with acceptable accuracy. Interprets operating requirements, selects appropriate parts, assists in determining proper design and modification of complex circuitry
  • Examines newly acquired instruments and testing equipment for conformance to acceptable standards of quality, making visual and electrical tests where necessary. Tests and repairs a broad range of complex test instrumentation such as secondary standards, radio frequency and microwave instruments. Modifies existing instruments per manufacturers modernization data or requirements of user
  • May provide assistance to personnel in lower related job classifications
  • Maintains records of test data, calibration schedules, and equipment and instrument certifications
  • May use hand and power tools and equipment, as necessary to perform above duties
  • Performs rework of the same nature and level of difficulty as described
  • Meets necessary certifications as required
  • Performs incidental related duties as assigned or required

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • 1+ years of experience with performing onboard radio frequency (RF) calibrations
  • 1+ years of experience working with calibrated electronic equipment
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • PMEL (Precision Measuring Equipment Laboratory) training
  • Associates degree or higher
  • Experience with surecal, metcal, and TME calibration Software
