About the Department

The University Budget Office is responsible for the strategic planning and institutional budget management for multiple funding sources including State Appropriations, Tuition and Fees, Facilities and Administrative (F&A) Revenue, budget oversight and review of the capital budget and Institutional Trust Funds. Our office provides financial information and analyses to university administrators and assists university colleges and departments in the establishment, maintenance, and control of budgets.

Essential Job Duties

The Systems Business & Technical Analyst plays a critical role in designing, testing, implementing, and maintaining NC State's multi-year budget planning system in the OneStream platform. This position also develops, maintains, and enhances budget analytics dashboards and data visualizations that help colleges and units with managing their resources and support executive decision-making on university resources. As the University deploys the OneStream solution to 37 colleges and units, this position will provide the necessary guidance and technical support to the University Budget Office and our campus partners.

The primary responsibilities of the Systems Business & Technical Analyst include, but are not limited to:

Budget Data Analytics and Dashboards
  • Develop and maintain budget data analytics, data visualizations, and interactive dashboards that support the University Budget Office's core mission of budget planning, analysis, forecasting, and compliance.
  • Improve effectiveness of budget reporting and intelligence functions through the use of advanced analytics tools

Budget Planning System Development and Optimization
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders to inventory business requirements, analyze budget processes, and translate them into effective OneStream solutions to provide NC State's budget planning system.
  • Lead the configuration, customization, and continuous enhancement of the OneStream platform to optimize multi-year budget planning and reporting capabilities.
  • Implement advanced features within OneStream, such as dashboards, analytics, and automated reporting to support decision-making.
  • Monitor and manage system performance, ensuring the platform runs efficiently and meets business needs.

Project Management
  • Leads the planning and implementation of the OneStream solution including defining project goals, collaborating with stakeholder workgroups and implementation consultants, creating detailed project schedules, and achieving system deliverables within project timelines and resources.

Technical Integration and Support:
  • Work closely with Office of Information Technology staff to ensure integration between OneStream and other enterprise systems, providing seamless and accurate data connections.
  • Provide ongoing technical support and troubleshooting for the OneStream platform, resolving any issues that arise.
  • Work closely with Office of Information Technology staff to implement and maintain user security for OneStream.
  • Stay current with OneStream updates and enhancements, assessing their impact on existing configurations and processes.

Training and Documentation:
  • Develop and provide training for end-users on OneStream functionalities.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, processes, and integrations.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, computer science, information technology, or a related field, with at least 2 years of relevant work experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications
  • Extensive experience with OneStream platform architecture, development, and implementation.
  • Significant experience with data visualization solutions such as PowerBI or Tableau
  • Strong background in budgeting, finance or accounting,
  • Proven track record of implementing OneStream projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to apply critical thinking to solve problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate and problem solve with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrates a customer service mindset focusing on continuous improvement of business processes.
  • Ability to work in a high-paced, dynamic environment responding to changing goals, priorities, and university needs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Significant knowledge of and experience with budgets and accounting with the ability to manage multiple funding sources and types.
  • Demonstrated experience managing customer relationships and resolving difficult customer issues.
