We are seeking a Business Applications Architect reporting to the IT Director, Corporate & Industry (C&I), who will play a strategic leadership role in shaping the company's future-state enterprise application ecosystem. The role will be responsible for ensuring the end-to-end solution integrity of the US business applications landscape, and encompasses responsibility for the architecture, integration strategy, and optimization of all US IT business applications, beyond the S/4HANA program. This position will focus on driving the successful migration from NetSuite to SAP S/4HANA, with a critical focus on modernizing and optimizing our business applications landscape, including SAP S/4HANA 2022 Private Cloud and FIORI applications. The Business Applications Architect will ensure seamless interoperability across a complex landscape of legacy and future-state systems while working closely with senior IT leaders, SAP functional analysts, and business stakeholders.
This position will be instrumental in designing scalable, sustainable integrations and business processes that align with the company's long-term digital transformation strategy, operating within a GXP and SOX-compliant environment. The Architect will lead efforts in business process standardization, enterprise application architecture, and integration frameworks, ensuring that technical designs align with business goals. Additionally, this role will drive alignment between business needs and system capabilities.
In collaboration with the company's Group's SAP Data Factory, Architecture, and MDM teams, as well as local US teams, the Business Applications Architect will align both current and future-state application architectures. In close partnership with the US Data Architect, this position will also support the company's OneData initiative, ensuring data governance, integration, and interoperability strategies are seamlessly embedded across the enterprise. This is a high-impact opportunity to lead foundational architecture work and influence the direction of core systems in a rapidly growing life sciences organization.
Primary Responsibilities
* Serve as the holistic architect for US IT business applications, ensuring cohesive integration and alignment across all systems-not limited to the SAP S/4HANA program-including strategic coordination with the Fusion Program and the broader US application ecosystem.
* End-to-End Solution Integrity: The Architect will be the final decision-maker for all US design decisions, ensuring that choices across US Nexus, Fusion, and US business-as-usual operations align with the architectural vision.
* Dual Capabilities Check: The Architect will evaluate all design decisions to identify and mitigate dual capabilities, ensuring system optimization and eliminating unnecessary overlaps.
* Arbitrator of Design Decisions: The Architect will act as the arbiter for all design decisions, ensuring the best choices for the company's US operations while aligning with global objectives.
* The Architect is ultimately responsible for the integrity of the applications spanning across the US portfolio, ensuring all systems work cohesively and efficiently.
* Lead the architectural design and implementation strategy for SAP S/4HANA, SAP FIORI, and supporting business applications, specifically focusing on the US side of the business
* Design integration frameworks to connect SAP with legacy systems and future-state business applications
* Guide the NetSuite to SAP S/4HANA migration, including data flows, business processes, and cutover plans
* Partner with SAP functional teams, business leaders, and the Company Group's DDIS team, Business Applications, and SAP Data Factory teams to align technical designs with business process goals and ensure seamless integration across the company's US operations and Group operations
* Conduct current and future-state assessments of enterprise applications to align with long-term strategic goals and IT initiatives
* Collaborate with the US IT team and business stakeholders to ensure architectural solutions align with both US and global business objectives
* Evaluate and drive the adoption of ERP S/4 Hana ecosystem and SAP FIORI applications to address evolving business needs and improve user experience
* Oversee technical change management, configuration governance, and ensure SDLC compliance
* Collaborate with developers, analysts, and Company Group's DDIS team to troubleshoot and resolve complex application and integration issues
* Coordinate with US business application teams and external vendors to ensure seamless integration and alignment with business goals within the US application ecosystem
* Ensure post-implementation reviews, system documentation, and design records are up to date and reflect continuous improvements
* Provide architectural input for vendor and platform selection to ensure alignment with company's IT strategy
* Act as a strategic thought partner in the enterprise application roadmap and digital transformation efforts, influencing the design of core business applications
Education and Required Skills
* Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field; equivalent experience considered
* Minimum of 7+ years of experience with SAP S/4HANA, enterprise architecture, and ERP system integration
* Deep expertise with FIORI application design and implementation
* Strong knowledge of business process architecture and system interoperability
* Experience leading ERP migrations, preferably from NetSuite to SAP
* Familiarity with GXP, SOX, and IT General Control (ITGC) change control processes
* Excellent communication skills with ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders
* Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset with a focus on scalable, strategic solutions
Travel and Location Occasional travel based on business needs (estimated <10%)
* Hybrid role based in Boston, MA - minimum 2-3 days/week in the office
