The N921 Command Priorities Department, part of the National and Defense Intelligence Division, helps the Combatant Command Intelligence Directorates (J2) mitigate critical gaps and shortfalls, identify relevant emerging technologies, and create advanced solutions to address mission challenges.
Roles & Responsibilities:
In this role, you will serve as a Principal Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems engineer, working to resolve the most difficult mission challenges faced by USINDOPACOM J2's Intelligence Enterprise. You will play a pivotal role in accelerating the adoption of advanced AI and machine learning (AI/ML) solutions across the Indo-Pacific Theater-where strategic competition and emerging technologies converge. You will serve as a trusted engineer providing technical and engineering rigor to guide decision making to senior leaders, helping to shape how AI and data-driven capabilities enhance warfighting readiness and decision superiority. You will serve as a member of a team of MITRE professionals focused on identifying new technology and assisting in the improvement of existing intelligence capabilities of the USINDOPACOM J2 and Joint Intelligence Operations Center (JIOC). Additionally, you will work to ensure the command intelligence enterprise is fully interoperable to support the mission, including partner capability integration. You will be assigned in direct support of the USINDOPACOM J2 Chief Technology Officer (CTO) / Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer, supporting efforts to evolve the intelligence baseline and modernize intelligence tools and tradecraft. - Lead AI/ML integration efforts in direct support of USINDOPACOM J2 and JIOC, focusing on accelerating operational adoption of existing technologies across J2 Divisions, HQ directorates, service components, and strategic partners, ensuring integration supports both current needs and long-term transformation.
- Facilitate identification, refinement, and implementation of high-impact AI/ML use cases by aligning operational problem sets with available commercial and government-developed solutions.
- Serve as a trusted engineer providing technical and strategic guidance on AI/ML capabilities that support intelligence analysis, targeting, mission planning, operational decision-making, and joint force integration, ensuring unity of effort, eliminating duplication, and synchronizing AI/ML-related activities.
- Partner with IC Components, USINDOPACOM AI Leaders, Industry, Academia, and other stakeholders to help shape the J2's AI Strategy and Implementation Plan, including a regional framework for scalable, resilient AI/ML deployment, ensuring support to current needs and long-term digital transformation.
- Research and recommend AI/ML training programs for J2 staff and AI leadership Team, curating best-in-class industry offerings to build foundational literacy and mission-specific expertise.
- Conduct operational, performance, and vulnerability assessments, providing clear insight into AI/ML progress, barriers to adoption, and paths to operational impact.
- Deliver impactful solutions to specific tasks as defined by the J2's Chief Technology Officer, our onsite project leader, and N921 department leadership.
Basic Qualifications:
- Active TS/SCI clearance with ability to obtain/maintain Polygraph
- Requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 5 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- A strong understanding of intelligence support to the warfighter, the organizations of the Intelligence community, and their responsibilities in support of intelligence collection, analysis, processing, and dissemination
- Demonstrated proficiency and strength in verbal, written, presentation, and communications skills
- Strong organization skills with the ability to collaborate across a broad range of units in a fast-paced environment
- This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A clear understanding of the USINDOPACOM mission and related intelligence activities
- Demonstrated experience developing strategic implementation plans or roadmaps for technology integration, with a focus on transitioning AI/ML capabilities from prototype to operational use.
- Experience advising or directly supporting Combatant Command or service component leadership, particularly in a joint or coalition environment.
- Proven ability to lead or contribute to multi-disciplinary teams working on complex, mission driven challenges involving AI/ML, data integration, or operational analytics.
- Interest in or experience with MITRE leadership roles, including project lead, task lead, or strategic contributor at the department or division level.
