Job Title: Cloud Infrastructure Engineer xPaaS

Job Overview
American Express is undergoing a large-scale Cloud, Big Data, and Mobile transformation and is seeking an experienced Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (xPaaS) to join a high-performing, innovative platform engineering team. This role focuses on building, operating, and enhancing enterprise-grade private and public cloud infrastructure that supports scalable, multi-tenant applications across web and mobile platforms.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Linux systems, Google Cloud Platform, Terraform, Kubernetes platforms, and on-prem to cloud infrastructure migrations, along with a passion for automation and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and support the cloud infrastructure platform and associated technologies
- Design, build, enhance, and integrate infrastructure solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards
- Maintain a robust, scalable, highly available, and secure 24x7 cloud environment
- Support multi-tenant, scale-out applications across development, testing, and production
- Lead and contribute to infrastructure migrations (on-prem to on-prem, on-prem to cloud, and hybrid cloud)
- Deploy and support COTS applications on Kubernetes platforms such as OpenShift and GKE
- Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and operations using Terraform and automation tools
- Perform Linux system administration, including performance tuning, patching, monitoring, and security hardening
- Manage cluster configurations, upgrades, and migrations on Red Hat Linux 8 virtual machines
- Collaborate with US and India teams in a Follow-the-Sun support model
- Participate in Incident, Change, Problem Management, RCA, and RFC processes
- Continuously optimize infrastructure and troubleshooting processes to improve efficiency and reliability
Education & Technology core competencies
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- Overall 7+ years of industry experience with 5 Years of relevant experience
- 5+ years of Unix/Linux system administration experience extensively
- At least 3 years' experience in supporting and maintaining the on-prem production-grade environment in two or more like Redis (Enterprise), Kafka, Elasticsearch and Astronomer etc.
- At least 2 years' experience in supporting and maintaining the production-grade environment in Terraform or similar IAC tool
- At least 2 years' experience in supporting and maintaining the production-grade environment in Google cloud (Foundations and Managed services like PSC, Interconnect, Pub Sub, Cloud Run, Memory store etc)
- At least 2 years' experience in supporting and maintaining the production-grade environment in deploying COTS apps in K8 environments like OpenShift or GKE.
- Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Shell Scripts, Python/Java)
- Cluster management, configurations, upgrades, and migrations on Red Hat Linux 8 in virtual machines
- Leading big infra migrations programs from on-prem to on-prem, on-prem to Public and Hybrid clouds.
- Extensive experience in Linux performance monitoring by using system tools, security setup, troubleshooting and performance tuning as necessary to ensure optimum performance, patching of Linux servers on regular schedule
- Eager to learn new technologies in a short time span
- Experience in change management, Incident management, RFC, Problem management & RCA
- Experience in automation to increase efficiency
- Optimize and streamline troubleshooting and debugging efforts by applying expertise across the infra and app domain.
