Lead Engineer - Gas Engineering

Department: Gas Engineering

Reports to: Manager - Gas Engineering
Location: In Office, Orange CT

The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from: $125,766 - $157,208

Job Summary

Reviews and interprets state and federal code as they pertain to the natural gas transmission and distribution business. Also involved in various major natural gas transmission and distribution capital replacement and maintenance projects. May provide guidance to lower-level engineers and analysts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Involved in the preparation of material specifications, standards, procedures, bid specifications, evaluation of bid proposals and managing contractors.
  • Involved in the preparation of work sketches and designs, work orders, material requisitions and cost estimates for various type projects including mains, services and meter sets.
  • Involved in the development and management of major programs or projects.
  • Includes conducting team meetings, preparing budgets and authorizations, and managing expenditures.
  • Involved in the preparation of material specifications, standards, procedures, bid specifications, evaluation of bid proposals and managing contractors.
  • Provides engineering guidance to engineering and drafting personnel, as required, to complete engineering and produce drawings for projects.
  • May review the work orders of other engineers.
  • Calculates load and pressure drop to properly size gas facilities.
  • Designs service and meter requirements to accommodate customer load.
  • Represents the company on various teams or committees on state, regional or national issues.

Required Qualifications
  • Required Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or Technology.
    • Master's degree desirable
  • Skills/Abilities:
    • Analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Able to multi-task.
    • Mentoring ability.
  • Experience/Training:
    • At least 5 - 6 years of related experience.
    • Experience in piping design, metering and regulating principles.
    • Thorough knowledge of gas system construction and maintenance practices, corrosion control techniques, underground pipe locating, map reading, blueprint reading.
    • Knowledge of state and federal pipeline safety regulations.
  • Certifications:
    • Valid driver's license
    • PE License desirable
