Senior Infrastructure Engineer

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, supporting, and maintaining secure network architectures, devices, and communications systems for Industrial Control System (ICS) environments in non-nuclear power plants. Your efforts will support both edge computing and cloud-based infrastructures, contributing to the broader mission of expanding access to reliable renewable energy.

The company is located in Herndon, VA and will be a hybrid model.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Support the DevOps and Infrastructure teams in deploying the next-generation Energy Management System (EMS) software securely across cloud and edge computing (IoT) environments.
  • Assist field commissioning teams with network and server issue resolution to ensure timely project delivery.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on power plant network infrastructure, adapting designs to meet evolving client needs.
  • Design and review network architectures for new deployments.
  • Remotely manage industrial firewalls across both cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Collaborate with customer cybersecurity teams to resolve network engineering challenges.
  • Work alongside Delivery and Lifecycle teams to coordinate on-site network troubleshooting.
  • Manage updates, maintenance, and licensing for customer network infrastructure components.
  • Evaluate, procure, and test industrial hardware for integration into standard product offerings.
  • Lead the setup and management of engineering and operator workstations on Linux and Windows platforms.
  • Contribute to systems and cloud administration efforts, working in a predominantly Linux-based environment (90% Linux, 10% Windows).
  • Design, build, and maintain lab servers and development infrastructure at the Herndon, VA office.
  • Develop documentation and training materials to guide commissioning teams on best practices.
  • Provide expertise on network hardware and architecture selection.
  • Support technology evaluations and contribute to the company's product roadmap.
  • Collaborate directly with customers to address project-specific networking needs and updates.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Experience in industrial automation, control systems, or power plant environments is highly desirable.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with TCP/IP networking and configuration of network devices (switches, routers, firewalls); familiarity with Fortinet is a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience managing IPSec VPNs and other advanced connectivity solutions.
  • Exposure to virtualization technologies such as VMware, Nutanix, Proxmox, or Hyper-V is a plus.
  • Strong Linux and Windows system administration skills, preferably with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Familiarity with system and network monitoring tools, log alerting, and dashboard platforms.
  • Bonus: Experience with cloud-native platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform), particularly VPC networking and firewall management.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering (Computer, Electrical, Mechanical), MIS, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis now and in the future.
