Index Analytics, LLC, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Appian Developer to lead the design, development, and implementation of Appian-based low-code business process applications for federal clients. This role demands a hands-on leader with deep technical expertise across Appian BPM, SAIL, record types, and integration design, including working knowledge of containerization and scalable enterprise environments.
This position is ideal for a senior technologist who has architected and delivered mission-critical workflows, implemented automation strategies, mentored teams, and aligned low-code solutions with evolving product roadmaps in a government contracting context.
Responsibilities
- Participate in discovery and requirements gathering sessions with federal stakeholders and business users.
- Architect and implement scalable Appian BPM applications using SAIL interfaces, expression rules, record types, query rules, sites, and Web APIs.
- Design Appian solutions that accommodate future enhancements, data archival strategies, and frozen data scenarios.
- Develop automation tools to reduce repetitive human tasks (e.g., data reporting, submission processing).
- Build intuitive, persona-based user interfaces with full 508 compliance for accessibility.
- Lead integrations with third-party systems (e.g., chemical structure databases, submission management platforms).
- Create custom components for application support tools and internal help desk systems.
- Contribute to data versioning strategies and implement robust data comparison tools.
- Mentor junior developers on Appian best practices, code reusability, and performance optimization.
- Produce development guidelines, architecture documentation, and design specs across projects.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to support containerized deployments using Docker and support production support tools.
- Modify and debug complex SQL stored procedures and database interactions in support of backend services.
- Work with leadership (e.g., program directors and project managers) taking on delegated tasks, as needed.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Authorized to Work and lived in the US for 3 of the last 5 years. Must be able to obtain a U.S. Federal government client badge and pass a government Public Trust.
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in Appian development, including Appian versions 7.x through 23.x.
- Proven track record in developing complex Appian applications across federal health or regulatory agencies.
- Deep knowledge of SAIL, Process Models, Record Types, Sites, Integrations, and Expression Rules.
- Experience implementing AI-based document classification and extraction using Appian AI Suite and GenAI skills.
- Strong background in J2EE, Java, Spring, Hibernate, and enterprise messaging systems (JMS).
- Skilled in front-end technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and 508 accessibility standards.
- Solid understanding of Appian containerization, including Docker, and orchestration environments.
- Proficiency with Oracle, MySQL, and DB2, including stored procedures, queries, and views.
- Familiarity with Adobe LiveCycle ES3/ES4 is a plus.
- Effective communicator and team player, with experience guiding junior developers and writing documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting CMS or similar federal health agencies.
- Familiarity with agile delivery in a DevSecOps environment.
- Experience developing and implementing data comparison and archival tools.
- Federal government project experience and familiarity with FISMA, ATO, and Section 508 compliance standards.
- Certifications in Appian (Lead Developer, Analyst, or Architect).
