Job Title: Chemist Air Quality Laboratory (Contract, $28/hr)

Location: Diamond Bar, CA (Onsite)

Company: AQMD (South Coast Air Quality Management District)

Pay Rate: $28/hour (W2, Contract)

Job Summary:
Join AQMD s Air Quality Laboratory team and help make a difference in Southern California s environment! We seek an early-career Chemist passionate about laboratory science, hands-on instrumentation, and contributing to clean air initiatives. This is a great opportunity for entry level candidates or candidates with 1 3 years of lab/analytical chemistry experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative chemical and physical analyses of air samples using advanced laboratory instrumentation, including:

    • Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatography (UHPLC)

    • Gas Chromatography/Flame Ionization Detector (FID)

    • Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (MS)

    • Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP/MS)

    • Ion Chromatography (IC)

    • Proton Transfer Reaction Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (PTR-MS)

    • Other spectroscopic techniques

  • Evaluate air quality samples for contaminants and report findings.

  • Support various laboratory departments and assist with fieldwork as needed.

  • Maintain adherence to strict chain-of-custody and documentation protocols.

  • Manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced lab environment.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Chemistry from an accredited U.S. college or university (analytical chemistry or instrumental analysis emphasis preferred).

  • Recent graduate or 1 - 3 years of hands-on experience performing chemical/physical analyses in a laboratory setting.

  • Familiarity with chromatographic, spectroscopic, or mass spectrometric methods.

  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills.

  • Ability to work onsite in Diamond Bar, CA.

Preferred:

  • Experience with air quality/environmental sample processing and reporting.

  • Strong teamwork/interpersonal skills and willingness to learn.
