Job Title: DevSecOps/OpenShift (Kubernetes) Engineer

Location: Lansing, MI (Hybrid)

Duration: 12+ Months

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled DevSecOps / Azure DevOps / OpenShift (Kubernetes) Engineer to support large-scale projects . This role requires strong technical leadership, hands-on expertise in Kubernetes/OpenShift, and the ability to mentor teams while driving DevSecOps maturity across the organization. The ideal candidate will consult with development teams to ensure platform solutions align with business application requirements, leveraging modern CI/CD practices, microservices, containers, and security-first approaches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as Lead Engineer, providing expertise in DevSecOps, Azure DevOps, and OpenShift (Kubernetes) for key initiatives.
  • Design, implement, and maintain Azure DevOps pipelines, Git repos, work item structures, wikis, and related standards.
  • Automate CI/CD workflows for applications running on Red Hat OpenShift (OCP), Linux, Windows, SQL Server, Oracle, and other environments.
  • Build and deploy Java and .NET applications into OpenShift containers using ADO pipelines, Docker, Helm, and S2I images.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues within OpenShift Container Platform (v4) environments.
  • Create, maintain, and document build/deployment automation scripts, CRDs, Dockerfiles, Helm charts, and custom images.
  • Manage and optimize Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana v8.x and higher) for performance, retention, and index curation.
  • Configure Logstash pipelines, Grok patterns, Elastic Beats (Filebeat, Heartbeat) for system monitoring.
  • Integrate SonarQube, Coverity, Black Duck, and other code quality/security tools into CI/CD workflows.
  • Develop automation scripts using Bash, KornShell, and Python.
  • Support application performance and issue debugging, including Java error analysis.
  • Apply strong knowledge of SSL, TCP/IP, LDAP, NGINX, and WebSphere to system deployments and integrations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth product deployments, upgrades, and operations.
  • Produce clear documentation for processes, standards, and automation practices.
  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and leadership to technical teams to drive organizational DevSecOps maturity.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 8+ years working with Kubernetes / OpenShift in enterprise environments.
  • 8+ years of experience in Linux shell scripting (bash, ksh).
  • 5+ years in application containerization management (Docker, OpenShift, Kubernetes).
  • Strong background in DevSecOps practices, infrastructure automation, and programming/scripting.
  • Hands-on expertise with:
    • OpenShift (OCP v4+)
    • Azure DevOps (ADO) pipelines, repos, branching, wikis, pull requests
    • Elastic Stack (ELK Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana)
    • Docker, Helm, S2I images
    • SonarQube, Coverity, Black Duck integration
    • Linux (RedHat, Ubuntu, etc.)
    • Bash, Shell, KornShell, Python scripting
    • NGINX, WebSphere, LDAP, SSL, TCP/IP

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with application debugging and performance optimization, especially for Java/.NET applications.
  • Familiarity with maintaining Docker image repositories such as Quay.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate in diverse team environments.
  • Self-starter with excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills.
