As the Principal Cloud Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the cloud strategy, ensuring the reliability and operational efficiency of cloud infrastructure. You will be responsible for architecting and managing cloud resources, driving the optimization of cloud environments, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver successful outcomes. Your expertise will be key in evaluating and implementing cutting-edge technologies, refining cloud processes, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals to drive performance and innovation.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage Cloud Architectural Artifacts.
  • Handle networking, firewalling, and routing.
  • Develop and implement scalable Infrastructure as Code (IaC) strategies, including modularization.
  • Define the platform versus service-level architecture.
  • Contribute to and maintain organization-wide Architecture Decision Records.
  • Lead the creation and enforcement of Cloud Policies, Procedures, and Standards.
  • Plan for disaster resilience, recovery, and availability.
  • Manage the use and quality gating of IaC tooling.
  • Provide consultancy for cloud technology stack/services selection based on technical and quality criteria (e.g., scalability, performance, security, compliance).
  • Oversee Cloud Operational Practices.
  • Drive cross-company Ecommerce projects.
  • Model and optimize the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for cloud infrastructure.
  • Perform capacity planning by continuously monitoring resource usage and demand trends.
  • Manage relationships with cloud service providers/vendors to ensure smooth operations and support.
  • Govern and enforce compliance with organizational security practices and auditing.
  • Lead the development of best-in-class cloud strategies.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer, training, and mentoring on cloud practices across the engineering organization.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 10+ years of industry experience.
  • Expertise in one or more major cloud platforms, such as Azure (preferred), Google Cloud, AWS, or others.
  • Experience with modularized Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and industry-standard tools.
  • Proficiency in configuration and secrets management tools.
  • Solid understanding of operational concerns including disaster recovery, resilience, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Experience in ITSM processes (Change, Knowledge & Incident Management).
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies.
  • Experience administering Kubernetes clusters.
  • Strong understanding of microservices principles and best practices, including API Gateway technologies.
  • Expertise in event-driven architecture principles.
  • Familiarity with serverless computing services.
  • Proficient in cloud networking, including VPCs, subnets, routing, load balancing, firewalls (including WAF), and security groups.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud security practices, including IAM, encryption, security group configurations, and SAST/DAST tools.
  • Experience with cloud monitoring and logging tools.
  • Skilled in diagramming tools and methodologies.
