Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mainframe Applications Support Engineer (L3 Support Tech Lead) to provide Tier 3 support, code enhancements, bug fixes, remediation of vulnerabilities, and platform upgrades across multiple mainframe systems. This role supports several integrated network planning and work administration systems used for telecom network operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Tier 3 support for all mainframe OSS applications

  • Deliver code fixes across PL/I, Assembler, COBOL, SAS, REXX, CLIST, and JCL modules

  • Implement enhancements and minor functional changes

  • Remediate vulnerabilities in mainframe modules or JCL flows

  • Analyze production issues impacting planning, dispatch, or inventory systems

  • Perform testing using approved test suites

  • Build and deploy software changes through Endevor across multiple regions

  • Debug ABENDs and system issues using Abend-Aid, Fault Analyzer, or dumps

  • Support DB2 and IMS precompile, bind, and ACBGEN flows

Tier 2 Support Assistance:

  • Respond to Tier 1/Tier 2 questions or tickets

  • Administer user access to batch flows or applications

  • Perform routine system and job stream maintenance

  • Maintain subsystem interfaces

  • Ensure nightly and weekly cycles complete successfully

  • Remediate long-running jobs, SQL performance issues, and system overload conditions

Requirements:

  • 10 15 years of hands-on experience supporting applications on IBM z/OS

  • Experience as a technical lead for mainframe development/support teams

  • 5 7 years of PL/I or COBOL development experience

  • Strong experience with JCL, PROCs, REXX, CLIST, ISPF, SDSF

  • Solid DB2 experience (static SQL, precompile, bind, package/plan management)

  • IMS experience (DB + DC), including PSB/DBD/ACB generation

  • Experience with Endevor or similar version-control tools

  • Ability to reverse-engineer load modules and analyze source vs. load behavior

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with telecom OSS systems

  • SAS experience on z/OS

  • Experience with dump-reading tools (Abend-Aid, Fault Analyzer)

  • Experience in 24/7 high-availability environments

  • Experience integrating apps across IMS, DB2, and distributed platforms

  • Familiarity with NDM/Connect:Direct, MQ, SFTP

  • Experience with ZLinux or z/OS UNIX System Services
