Job Description:

Apex Systems is hiring a Lab Manager for a contract role in Pasadena.

This is a 1 year engagement with potential to extend to two years.

Our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a motivated Lab Manager Technician to join our team, whose role will be to support our engineering and research teams. We are specifically looking for candidates with lab management and electronics technician experience. The chosen candidate will work with a cross functional team of researchers and engineers to support the daily operations of labs and facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage, stage, set up, organize, and/or track equipment, parts, and lab spaces so that users perform research tasks in a timely and efficient manner
  • Support researchers and engineers on daily operations
  • Procure new equipment, facility amenities, and manage lab space improvements
  • Build, troubleshoot, rework, and repair prototypes containing electrical, optical, and mechanical components
  • Support planning and project requirements when needed
  • Coordinate services to ensure labs are cleaned and maintained


Required Characteristics:

  • Associates degree or relevant professional technician experience with electrical and/or mechanical products
  • 3+ years of experience as a hands-on lab technician or lab manager working directly with engineers in the consumer electronics, optics, biomedical, wearables, or research industry
  • Experience with lab equipment such as electrical measurement and rework equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, soldering equipment), 3D printers, laser cutters, Keyence optical inspection tools
  • Ability to solder and rework electronic components and cables, including fine pitched SMTs
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and personal management skills
  • Computer proficiency, including spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets)


Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience in both electrical and mechanical engineering or related field highly desirable
  • Operations and/or Project Planning experience
  • Experience reading electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
