Overview
GovCIO is currently hiring for a UI/UX Designer to support the VR&E PSES contract involved in updated the VA.gov web site. This position will be fully remote within the United States.
Responsibilities
Develops and implements user interface wireframes and mockups using Figma, Storybook, which houses a comprehensive design system library, focusing on robust application features built in React with REST/SOAP APIs and other established backend services. Participates in system planning and the development deployment process while ensuring adherence to software compliance and testing standards. Responsible for overseeing the frontend design processes, establishing user guidelines, and conducting Veteran-centered research sessions to address questions regarding feature intentions, the information architecture, and adherence to auditable 508 compliances.

Posted Pay Range
The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process. - Collaborate with developers to ensure seamless project execution, focusing on high-quality user interfaces and adherence to timelines.
- Mentor and lead the design team, promoting a culture of continuous learning and excellence in UX/UI design practices.
- Develop and uphold UX design best practices, ensuring consistent standards of excellence across all user interfaces.
- Engage in user requirement gathering, crafting user stories, and managing project timelines and estimates to enhance user-centered design processes.
- Manage the creation of detailed UX documentation, such as design specifications, user guidelines, and maintenance manuals, to ensure clarity and effective communication.
- Lead user testing and UX integration efforts to verify system usability and effectiveness, ensuring robust functionality and user satisfaction.
- Maintain active communication with stakeholders, both internal and external, to align design goals and swiftly address any issues related to user experience.
- Perform thorough UX analyses of system requirements to optimize interface design and overall system performance, considering data flow and user interaction patterns.
- Participate actively in design and sprint reviews, ensuring all user interface deliverables are in line with user needs and project specifications.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's with 3+ years (or commensurate experience)
- Proven expertise in designing interactive applications using tools like Figma, with a focus on creating high-fidelity prototypes and dynamic user interfaces.
- Strong analytical skills to investigate user behaviors and derive actionable insights for enhancing interface design and user experience.
- Ability to lead UX projects independently, driving the design process with minimal oversight.
- Experience in collaborating within multidisciplinary teams, including developers, product managers, and other stakeholders, to ensure a cohesive design strategy.
- Proficient with Agile UX methodologies and iterative design processes, ensuring rapid prototyping and frequent user feedback incorporation.
- Deep understanding of the UX design lifecycle, from research and conceptualization to deployment and post-launch evaluation.
- Familiarity with cloud-based UX tools and environments, including user testing platforms and design collaboration tools such as InVision and Zeplin.
- Experience with design version control and project management tools (e.g., Github, Jira, Confluence, etc) to streamline design processes and enhance team collaboration.
- Adaptability to remote work setups, effectively managing design projects and team interactions in a distributed work environment.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Proven experience working with the VA and/or other Federal agencies, with a deep understanding of federal processes and regulations.
- Strong familiarity with the VA.gov platform and its ecosystem, demonstrating the ability to navigate and optimize its features effectively.
