Job Description: SCADA/EMS Consultant (Onsite)

Location: Bayarea CA / Onsite Requirement
Experience Level: 8+ years in SCADA/EMS projects (utilities/energy sector preferred)

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced SCADA/EMS Consultant with proven onsite expertise in SCADA database development, network modeling, display/HMI configuration, and EMS system integration. The ideal candidate will have a background supporting utility or energy operations, similar to industry experts like Baron Truesdell, and must be comfortable working in client onsite environments.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain SCADA/EMS databases including RTU definitions, PI/PCI modeling, tie-line configurations, and contingency logic.

Build and optimize SCADA displays and HMI interfaces for dispatch and control room operations.

Perform network and communications modeling for transmission and distribution systems.

Support system integration, commissioning, and testing (point-to-point, failover, CAT, FAT/SAT).

Provide onsite dispatcher/operator support, ensuring real-time data accuracy and performance.

Conduct SCADA migrations, upgrades, and cutovers with minimal disruption to operations.

Collaborate with field engineers and IT teams for RTU/PLC integration and troubleshooting.

Ensure compliance with NERC CIP and other regulatory standards.

Prepare and review technical documentation, change requests (DBCR), and acceptance test plans.

Required Skills & Qualifications

8+ years’ experience in SCADA/EMS systems within utilities, power generation, or transmission/distribution companies.

Hands-on experience with GE/Alstom e-terrasource, e-terrabrowser, FG Display Builder, AREVA/Alstom tools, or equivalent SCADA platforms.

Strong knowledge of SCADA database design, RTU/relay configuration, communications protocols, and EMS modeling.

Practical exposure to dispatch operations support and real-time system troubleshooting.

Experience in compliance frameworks (e.g., NERC CIP).

Strong communication skills with ability to work directly at onsite client locations.

Good to Have

Knowledge of FLISR, CRG implementations, or renewable integration projects.

Exposure to GIS integration with SCADA systems.

Familiarity with regulatory compliance projects across North America.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
