Job Details

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Designer to join our team supporting a major national defense infrastructure program. This effort focuses on modernizing and constructing critical facilities and systems that support U.S. Air Force operations. The project involves large-scale electrical design, integration, and construction of complex power and control systems across multiple secure facilities.

Position Summary
The Senior Electrical Designer will plan, develop, and produce detailed electrical design packages for new and existing facilities. This position is responsible for preparing electrical 3D and 2D designs using SmartPlant 3D, AutoCAD, and SmartSketch, coordinating with multiple engineering disciplines, and ensuring all work complies with project specifications, codes, and standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and capable of leading small design teams while maintaining focus on quality and safety.

Responsibilities
Lead or support electrical design and drafting activities, including layouts, detailed 2D/3D models, and construction drawings
Develop electrical designs for power distribution, grounding, lighting, and communication systems for complex industrial and defense-related facilities
Prepare design documentation, material requisitions, and bid evaluations
Check and review design deliverables for accuracy and compliance with standards
Perform constructability reviews and coordinate field changes as required
Create bills of material and installation details for cable trays, conduit systems, duct banks, and lighting layouts
Conduct modeling of electrical rooms, switchgear, and associated components in SmartPlant 3D
Perform calculations for lighting layouts (AGI 32) and ground grid systems (ETAP)
Coordinate design interfaces with other disciplines in the 3D environment to ensure complete integration
Support and mentor junior designers in software use and design best practices
Participate in site visits and design reviews as needed

Required Qualifications
Associate degree or certificate in Engineering/CAD with 7 8 years of experience, or 9 12 years of relevant work experience

Proficiency in SmartPlant 3D, AutoCAD, and SmartSketch
In-depth knowledge of NEC, NEMA, ANSI, and IEEE standards
Experience with cable management systems such as SETROUTE or similar
Strong ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams
Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with DoD, DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, USAF, or NASA projects
Knowledge of SpecsIntact specification software
Familiarity with ISO-9000 or other quality-assurance programs
Experience designing electrical systems for large industrial or defense facilities such as control centers, test stands, or secure buildings
