Job Title: Systems Engineer 5

Location: Everett, WA

Job Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer 5 to join our R&M Engineering organization. The selected candidate will help design, certify, and support commercial airplanes by applying state-of-the-art reliability and maintainability engineering design, modeling, and analysis principles. R&M Engineering is a key functional discipline that supports airplane development for optimal performance, lifecycle economics, and compliance with safety and airworthiness requirements.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Use modeling, simulation, and data analytics methodologies and tools, including statistical and probabilistic analyses.
  • Serve as a technical specialist supporting other functional design groups during all stages of the airplane product development and support lifecycle.
  • Aid in determining program technical performance measures (TPMs) such as schedule reliability, airplane operational availability, and maintenance cost.

Provide support in the following areas:
  • Design for Reliability & Safety: Validate and verify airplane and system design reliability requirements, allocate reliability requirements to suppliers, conduct failure modes, rates, effects, propagation, and detection analysis, perform architecture and operational provisions, safety and certification analysis, certification support, and reliability and durability testing.
  • Design for Maintainability: Validate and verify airplane and system design maintainability requirements, perform task time analysis, evaluate maintainability of design using digital maintainability tools including virtual and augmented reality tools, assess airplane technical performance measures (TPMs) such as schedule reliability, airplane operational availability, and maintenance costs, and conduct TPM guarantee analysis.
  • Interact with airplane system suppliers, business partners, airline customers, airplane development program leaders, and functional management. High-level communication with the R&M Engineering internal organization, program teams, and functional design areas is typical. Team involvement, individual effort, problem-solving, and managing multiple actions and assignments will be regular duties for an R&M engineer.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher from an ABET (or similar) accredited course of study in an engineering discipline, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry.
  • 14 or more years of related work experience in an engineering field.
  • 5 or more years of Reliability Engineering experience in commercial aviation.
  • Experience in airplane systems design or engineering analysis (e.g., Propulsion, Electrical Power, Mechanical, Network, Fuels, Pneumatic, Interiors, Flight Controls, Hydraulics, Avionics, Fuels, etc.).
  • Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) experience in commercial airplane certification.
  • Proficient in FTA software tools such as CAFTA, ReliaSoft, or FaultTree+.
  • Experience in FTA integration for commercial airplanes.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience utilizing Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools.
  • Experience with project planning and execution.
  • Technical leadership experience.

Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry (e.g., Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g., PhD+4 years of related work experience, Master+7 years of related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
