Mid-Level Process Engineer

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Mid-Level Process Engineer to join our team located in Huntsville, AL.

This position will be responsible for process oversight and production engineering execution in the HSV electronics manufacturing Center of Excellence for the Patriot Advanced Capability -3 (PAC-3) Program. The ideal candidate is a catalyst for change and will be well-versed in PCB assembly processes and industry standards while having a firm understanding of LEAN /Six-Sigma concepts or methodologies. Collaborative and dynamic in nature, this role must be adaptive, agile, and display ownership over assigned manufacturing objectives and responsibilities.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and implement efficient SMT processes for new product introductions (NPI) and existing production line catalog of products
  • Continuously monitor and analyze production processes to identify and implement advancements in efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness
  • Provide expert technical support to resolve process-related issues on the production floor, including equipment malfunctions, material defects, and process deviations
  • Oversee the selection, implementation, and maintenance of production equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to establish process controls and specifications while ensuring product quality in accordance with industry standards (IPC & J-STD)
  • Provide training and technical support to engineering, operations, and maintenance teams on SMT process characteristics, defect analysis and reduction, and industry best practice concepts or performance enhancement approach
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives, such as LEAN manufacturing and six-sigma projects to enhance process capability and product reliability
  • Develops, implements, and maintains manufacturing documentation pertaining to part specifications, work instructions, process flow maps, and quality control assurance

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • Experience in the Electronics Manufacturing / PCB Assembly industry
  • 3+ years of experience working with Quality Standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 14000
  • 3+ years of experience reading engineering blueprints/drawings
  • 3+ years of experience in CCA (Circuit Card Assembly) machine programming / CAD

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Extensive knowledge in electro-mechanical assembly processes: SMT, Reflow, AOI/AXI, Wash, Conformal Coat, Mechanical Assembly, and Test
  • Advanced troubleshooting, prioritization, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experienced in DFM, DOE, PFMEA, and 8D practices and theory
  • Proficient in Product Data Management (PDM), Bill of Materials, (BOM), Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), and ERP/MRP systems
  • Familiar in the application / deployment of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) or AS9145 within organizations
  • Ability to design design fixtures and tooling in a manufacturing environment
  • Six-Sigma Green or Black Belt Certified
  • Experience in the aerospace industry
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
