Job Description:
The OPS AR Application Developer will assist with the implementation and refinement of augmented reality (AR) features within an existing educational mobile application. This is a project-based, temporary role focused on integrating 3D assets, optimizing functionality across devices, and supporting the user experience for children and families engaging with the New Worlds Reading AR Expeditions app. The developer will work closely with the ETC team, including 3D modelers, UX/UI designers, and instructional designers, to ensure successful application updates and deployments.

Primary Responsibilities:

Application Implementation & AR Development

  • Integrate 3D models and AR assets into Unity-based applications
  • Ensure performance and functionality across mobile platforms (iOS and Android)
  • Collaborate with design and development team members to meet milestones and launch goals
  • Support bug fixes and feature improvements based on user feedback

Support for User Testing & Deployment

  • Prepare application builds for focus group testing and stakeholder review
  • Troubleshoot technical issues during testing cycles
  • Implement refinements in response to user feedback and QA

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Communicate technical needs and project updates to project team
  • Contribute to light documentation to support ongoing maintenance
  • Participate in team meetings and project planning check-ins

The role is part-time (up to 40 hours each week) and in-person at the University of Florida College of Education.

This position is part of a grant-funded initiative and may be extended pending funding and performance.

The role reports to the Assistant Director of Operations in the E-Learning, Technology, and Communications office.

A background check is required.

Expected Salary:
$18.00 hourly

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience with Unity 3D game engine and C# scripting
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AR components using AR Foundation or similar toolkits
  • Understanding of mobile app deployment and optimization best practices

Preferred:
  • Familiarity with Apple's Swift, Android Studio, or cross-platform deployment pipelines
  • Experience working with 3D models, animation, and optimizing assets for mobile AR
  • Background or interest in education, early literacy, or child-centered design
  • Familiarity with accessibility in immersive applications
