Production Control Engineer

Story Behind the Need

• To support and maintain the Buffalo Data Center
• The team culture is easy going but we get the work done. We are not afraid to have the conversations and look to each other as sources of information to educate each other in areas we are not familiar with. Projects currently being worked are: updating cabling, cabinet consolidation, and documentation. This is in addition to our daily tasks of hardware installs, break fix, and decommissions.

Typical Day in the Role

• Oversees the daily operations of the organization's data center, maintains and updates data storage systems, manages hardware and software, implements data protection and recovery plans, performs installations and repairs, and provides technical support to staff as needed.
• Supports all data center hardware and equipment, including servers, storage, converged infrastructure, and appliances from a variety of manufacturers
• Monitors environment for alarms (including capacity) and takes appropriate actions in remediating issues
• Plans and executes data center infrastructure upgrades, including servers, storage, and appliances
• Aides in capacity planning across server and storage infrastructure and assists data center technicians with issue resolution
• Ensures effectiveness of security solutions, including firmware upgrades, anti-virus solutions, and software patches
• Establishes and maintains regular written and in-person communications with internal and external stakeholders
• Schedules maintenance windows for data center deployments, following all change management processes
• Creates and updates training and knowledge articles for data center technologies
• Creates reports and presents results to internal stakeholders
• Implements data protection plans as well as backup/ recovery service changes such as scheduling, server groupings, etc.

Candidate Requirements

• Required: Bachelors or equivalent Preferred:
• Years of experience required: 2-4
• Disqualifiers: not willing to go on-site
• Additional qualities to look for:

• 1 Experience with data center infrastructure projects required
• 2 Experience with structured cabling copper/fiber, testing of cables, cooling, and electrical systems concepts inside the data center required
• 3 Be Able to work independently
