Sr. MS SQL DBA Location: Marysville, OH 12 Months Contract
Job Description:
- The SQL Server DBA provides a technical role in maintaining the operational stability and security of clients' SQL Server database environment, in a cost-effective manner.
- Additional responsibilities include providing DBA resources for database development projects, funded by application teams/business, acting as liaison between SQL Server database team and application teams, he/she ensures that all project deliverables by DBA team are completed within schedule and budget.
- The SQL Server DBA also works closely with data architecture team in understanding project requirements leading to the design, build and implementation of SQL Server databases.
Daily Tasks Performed:
- Project Development Support:
- Meet with application teams to understand requirements and recommend high-level direction and approach to upcoming projects.
- Install and configure SQL Server instances on servers, ensuring proper settings and options are chosen based on the organization's requirements.
- Fine-tuning database systems to enhance performance, scalability, and reliability. This includes monitoring and optimizing database query performance, indexing, and database caching.
- Collaborate with developers and stakeholders to design and implement database schemas, tables, indexes, and relationships.
- Attend ARB meetings to understand the new project requirements, as related to database design, build and implementation of SQL Server database applications.
- Manage other SQL Server DBA resources that ensures that their availability is aligned with project schedules (supply vs demand).
- Ensure that all DBA deliverables
- Tuning, Monitoring and Patching:
- Monitor database performance using built-in tools and third-party solutions.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks through query optimization, index tuning, and configuration adjustments.
- Configure and utilize monitoring tools to track database health, performance metrics, and security events.
- Set up alerts to notify administrators of potential issues.
- Inter/Intra Organizational Communication:
- Must understand and implement organizational policies and procedures related to the administration of the SQL Server database environment.
- Conduct regularly scheduled meetings with team manager to understand Business Plans and Organization QCD metrics.
- Provide Status reports to team manager; Budget/finance status, project status, etc.
- Build and maintain good relations with other teams by fostering open communication between the application and database teams.
- Track job/process failures (sev-1/2) and conduct appropriate PDCA associated to all failures and 4-Block analysis, documentation and presentation.
- Track portfolio growth, including; space management, database counts, application counts, etc.
- Backup and Recovery and DR:
- Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies to safeguard data against loss or corruption. Regularly test backup and recovery procedures.
- Implement high availability solutions such as database mirroring, clustering, or AlwaysOn Availability Groups.
- Develop and test disaster recovery plans.
- Security and Compliance of the SQL Server database environment:
- Conduct Periodic Access Reviews on a monthly basis.
- Follow and enforce defined database access policies.
- Maintain daily backup metrics, ensuring all SOX database backups are monitored according to policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain SOX documentation; security access, backup procedures and target 'ZERO' SOX deficiencies.
- Participate in the implementation of PII initiatives, as defined by Ent. Architecture and application teams.
- Implementing and maintaining security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, such as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Position Success Criteria (Desired) - 'Wants':
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Systems (IS), Computer Science, software engineering, information technology and/or equivalent industry experience.
- 5-8 years of Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator experience
- 2-4 years of experience working on large-scale projects.
- Should have knowledge of cloud computing concepts, virtualization, and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) platforms.
- 1-2 years of experience in SOX related requests.
Other Job Specific Skills:
- Strong technical knowledge of SQL Server database administration, architecture/design, data analysis and management
- Strong technical knowledge of current SQL Server database systems and versions, including other Windows based tools, utilities and active directory
- Extensive application support experience working with application teams
- High-level understanding of IT infrastructure planning and development.
- Excellent understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
- In-depth knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
- Good understanding of Project Management skills.
- Automotive industry IT knowledge is preferred.
