Position Summary:

Seeking an experienced and dedicated Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to oversee and enforce safety protocols on active U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) construction sites. The SSHO will ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations including EM 385-1-1 and OSHA standards.

Position Summary:

Seeking an experienced and dedicated Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to oversee and enforce safety protocols on active U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) construction sites. The SSHO will ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations including EM 385-1-1 and OSHA standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with the site-specific Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and all applicable safety policies.
  • Conduct daily safety inspections and audits of work areas, equipment, and operational practices.
  • Identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures to maintain compliance with safety standards.
  • Lead daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions for all site personnel.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety violations; develop and document corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Maintain complete and accurate safety documentation, including logs, permits, inspection reports, and training records.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and Siemens corporate safety policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to verify their safety programs and training meet project-specific requirements.
  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for all safety-related matters.
  • Collaborate with project teams to identify hazards and develop proactive risk mitigation strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in Environmental Health & Safety or a related field, or a minimum of five (5) years of EHS experience in construction safety, preferably on federal or large-scale commercial projects required.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required.
  • Must possess or be willing and able to obtain within 6 months a CHST, ASP, or CSP certification.
  • EM 385-1-1 training and prior experience strongly preferred.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with government contracts and compliance standards (e.g., USACE, NAVFAC).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency preferred.
