Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Orion, MI on a full-time basis.

The Role

The career level process engineer, able to work autonomously with occasional guidance from supervision. Skilled in equipment and tooling alternatives, sequence, and flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machines and facilities necessary for Paint Shop operations. Work is performed with hourly employees, production and skilled trades, salaried employees, and 3rd party support organizations. Creativity and initiative are a must as well as independent judgment. This Process Engineer position will involve training others and assigning work to a small groups of employees.

What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities):
  • Design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required to manufacture high quality products
  • SORs and project management for tools, stations, or specific technologies
  • Manufacturing process definition including sequence of operations.
  • Human factors consideration (Employee machine interface)
  • Efficient material flow
  • Providing technical direction to and oversight of employees including 3rd party vendors
  • Development and testing of advanced process technology
  • Detailed feedback to central process champions


Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
  • Minimum BS in Engineering or 5+ years in paint / automation
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive manufacturing, with emphasis on paint shop operations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Able to work as part of an innovative team.
  • Must be comfortable supervising hourly employees
  • Capable of working all shifts
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment
  • Willing and capable of learning new processes and skills


What Gives You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, or related field
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft tools suite and data visualization tools
  • Understanding of Global Manufacturing System (GMS) and lean manufacturing
