Role and Responsibilities

Samsung Electronics America is seeking a dynamic Senior IP Attorney who will oversee patent litigation relating to all of our products and IP policy issues, including International Trade Commission (ITC), US Appeal Court, US District Courts, and Patent & Trademark Appeals Board (PTAB). Additionally, you will participate in outreach efforts including to the US Congress and/or US Administrative Agencies. Other roles and responsibilities include:
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team environment to direct complex IP disputes, primarily patent appeals, before the Federal Circuit and patent trials before the ITC, District Courts, and PTAB
  • Counsel diverse internal clients in all aspects of IP litigation and patent valuation
  • Manage outside counsel in complex IP disputes
  • Monitor and analyze current IP policy proposals to develop and execute IP policy strategy


Represent the company within advocacy organizations, in meetings before Congress and Administrative agencies, in meetings of IP committees within standard-setting organizations, and at public conferences and events

Skills and Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • JD with 5+ years of relevant experience at a top-tier law firm, US government (e.g., clerkship and or agency experience), and/or in-house legal department
  • Substantive experience managing patent appeals before the Federal Circuit required. Work experience within the Federal Circuit and/or significant oral argument experience is highly preferred.
  • Additional experience litigating patent disputes before the ITC, District Courts, and/or PTAB required, preferably including disputes involving standard-essential-patents


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in outreach efforts (e.g., explaining highly detailed legal issues) to the US Congress, US Administrative Agencies, and Standard Setting Organizations preferred, but not required
  • Background in engineering/science highly preferred, but not required
  • Korean bilingual preferred, but not required


Required Skills:
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to translate complex IP policy issues into manageable concepts which diverse audiences can understand and process
  • Self-starter and ability to work effectively both independently and in a cross-cultural team across the globe
