Senior Mainframe Middleware & Application Systems Engineer

Overview:

We're seeking a seasoned Mainframe Engineer with deep expertise across CICS, IBM MQ, and IMS subsystems. This role is responsible for ensuring the stability, scalability, and performance of critical transaction processing environments. You'll lead integration efforts between middleware and databases, optimize message handling, and troubleshoot complex application-layer issues across z/OS systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Administer, configure, and optimize CICS regions and MQ environments

Architect and support IMS/TM and IMS/DB infrastructure including DBD/PSB definitions

Integrate CICS, IMS, DB2, MQ, and APIs across complex workflows

Lead dump analysis and resolve system/application anomalies (IPCS, Abend-AID)

Collaborate with developers and operations on middleware best practices

Develop or maintain system exits and scripts using Assembler, REXX, and COBOL

Participate in system upgrades, maintenance, and disaster recovery testing

Document system configurations, workflows, and support procedures

Preferred Skills:

15+ years in mainframe environments with emphasis on transaction systems

Proficiency with CICS TS, IBM MQ Explorer, IMS Connect/Gateway, DL/I

Deep knowledge of z/OS performance monitoring tools: RMF, SMF, SDSF, OMEGAMON

RACF and security management in middleware environments

Strong understanding of middleware-to-database integration and tuning

Excellent communication, documentation, and mentoring abilities
