SUMMARY:

The Network Operations Specialist plays a critical role in data center, branch office and cloud service connectivity. Responsibilities include the procurement, management and monitoring of enterprise WAN circuits across diverse technology mediums, as well as, defining the logical and physical characteristics necessary to ensure service reliability and high-performance. The analyst proactively monitors circuit performance, coordinate installs and drives telecom trouble tickets in a collaborating effort with internal IT teams to maintain service continuity and business requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in the planning and implementation of network expansions, site relocations, and technology refresh projects.
  • Coordinates end-to-end provisioning of private and public domain circuits across diverse mediums (MPLS, VPLS and Ethernet).
  • Works jointly with telecom carriers and Network Engineering to ensure timely circuit delivery and diversity.
  • Coordinates Circuit Acceptance Testing with Network Engineering and validates performance through enterprise monitoring tools.
  • Investigates/troubleshoots service issues as a first responder, escalating to 3rd party carriers and Network Engineering, as appropriate.
  • Tracks and resolves carrier trouble tickets, ensuring adherence to SLAs and minimizing downtime.
  • Communicates clearly and timely to technical peers and IT management regarding connectivity procurement status, performance trends, and outage resolutions.
  • Maintains an up-to-date circuit inventory including terms, SLAs, bandwidths, Local Exchange Carriers (LECs) and circuit IDs.
  • Participates in on-call rotation and after-hours support when requested

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven experience within a 24/7 mission critical IT infrastructure.
  • Exhibited timely resource coordination between 3rd party vendors and internal teams to maintain connectivity across datacenters and a 100+ multi-site infrastructure.
  • Acted as carrier primary point of contact for circuit-related escalations and communications.
  • Demonstrated success within time-sensitive operational processes, enterprise tools and performance tracking mechanisms.
  • Committed capability to work closely with infrastructure teams to support ongoing operations and projects.

REQUIRED SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Thorough understanding of WAN Layer 2 and Layer 3 connectivity mediums (MPLS, VPLS, Ethernet, Point-to-Point, etc.) and familiarity with firewall features
  • Ability to perform tasks independently while contributing towards team-goals
  • Efficient and effective time management skills / Capability to address multiple priorities concurrently
  • Strong analytical project planning and problem-solving skills
  • Current understanding of IT best practice standards and security practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Administrative/hands-on experience with:
    • SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor and Network Traffic Analyzer
    • Progress Whats Up Gold
    • Cisco IOS (confirming interface status and routing table entries)
    • FortiGate GUI and FortiOS (confirming interface status and routing table entries)

Required certifications/registrations:

N/A

Required years of experience:

3 5 years of telecom vendor management within a fast-paced environment

3 5 years operations experience within a redundant and diverse infrastructure

Preferred education/experience:

Bachelor s degree in computer science, or related discipline

ITIL v4 Certification in Service Delivery

Working knowledge of financial industry
