PACCAR Embedded Engineering

PACCAR Embedded Engineering is a rapidly expanding organization that is transforming the way control systems and software are developed for commercial vehicle applications. Position Summary

PACCAR's Embedded Engineering department, which serves both Kenworth and Peterbilt, has an opening for anSoftware Engineer-Embedded Systems.Primary responsibilities will include the definition and interpretation of requirements, design, programming, debugging, testing, and integration of embedded/software systems. The successful candidate will be able to apply principles of solid engineering and good business practices to solve complex systems and technical problems relative to class 5/6/7/8 vehicle (medium/heavy duty trucks) system design and integration. He/she will be managing embedded software deliverables and coordinating with stakeholders to ensure successful vehicle software launches in PACCAR manufacturing plants and fields. Job Functions / Responsibilities
  • Develop embedded software models using MATLAB/Simulink/State flow per design of the software for next-generation electronic control units
  • Manage the source control and controlled release of software models to maintain schedule, budget, and functionality for projects
  • Participate in the planning and tracking of validation and usability studies of vehicle software module functionality
  • Test and implement software modifications to repair defects discovered during validation and testing
  • Lead reviews to ensure industry-leading embedded software development best practices are met with software models and modules
  • Work with vehicle property owners, product developers, system architects, and software architects to develop and maintain software-level technical requirements specifications
  • Design and release of embedded systems (electrical, electronic & software) and architecture for heavy commercial trucks
  • Provide interface documentation to wiring design, software architect(s), and other engineering design groups. Contributes to the development and continuous improvement of procedures and practices that ensure industry-leading, high-quality, reliable electronic systems and architecture
  • Travel up to 10% (domestic &international)

Qualifications &Skills
  • B.S.in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science or equivalent required
  • Proficiency using MATLAB/Simulink, logi.CAD, Rational Rhapsody, Subversion (SVN), GIT, AZURE, and Requirements Management tools are required
  • 5+ years of experience in the development & release of automotive or commercial vehicle software or a similar industry-related background is preferred
  • Experience with automotive or commercial vehicle networks, such as CAN, SAE J1939, and LIN required
  • Proficiency using Requirements Management tools and Systems Engineering tools desired. Experience using IBM Rational Rhapsody, IBM Rational DOORS, IBM Rational Team Concert, Sparx Enterprise Architect, Creo/ProEngineer, Mentor Graphics, and/or HP Quality Center is a plus
  • Experience/Knowledge of ISO 26262, ISO 15504, SPICE compliance, system-level embedded/software prototyping (RCP) and requirements generation preferred
  • Experience creating documentation including software requirements specifications, and engineering change notices
  • Solid understanding of Design for Six Sigma and Six Sigma techniques
