The Microsoft Entra ID Team (previously known as Azure Active Directory) is under Microsoft Security organization and is at the center of Microsoft's cloud strategy. It consists of critical authentication, authorization, and directory services that are used by the millions of Azure, Office 365, XBOX and Windows users worldwide. The backend directory store is at the heart of Microsoft Entra ID architecture. It hosts millions of tenants and billions of identities. It serves billions of requests per day in the stacks powering core authentication and programmability.Our team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help evolve the backend directory store to address the needs for the next decade. You will have an opportunity to work on the latest technologies in storage and distributed systems and apply innovative algorithms for solving problems at scale and high performance. This Hybrid Position is located at our Microsoft office in Redmond, Washington. Relocation Support will be provided, and successful candidates will need to relocate or reside within 50 miles of the field location.

Responsibilities:

• Build, evolve, and co-own a hyper-scale distributed service.
• Participate and lead in all stages of software development lifecycle.
• Drive improvements in product security, resiliency, performance, and reliability.
• Drive improvements in live-site excellence and promote engineering best practices.
• Demonstrate effective customer empathy, curiosity and willingness to question and learn.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of industry experience building, designing, managing and delivering highly available, large-scale: cloud services and/or distributed systems / services on a cloud platform

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, Java, Scala or TypeScript
  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
• Industry experience in designing, implementing, and managing automation, infrastructure, control plane, and region buildout for large-scale cloud services

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
