Ruby on Rails Developer On-site in Los Angeles, CA
We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our team on a limited-term basis. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, strong communicator, and hands-on technologist with deep expertise in building enterprise applications. In this role, you will contribute directly to the development and enhancement of complex, high-impact solutions that support our clients success.
The Custom Applications (CAPPS) Engineering and Integration team builds and maintains multiple proprietary, large-scale systems using Ruby on Rails and modern JavaScript frameworks. This role focuses on ongoing enhancements, engineering support, and functional development. You will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and technical leads, contributing to technical strategy, code reviews, and development best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on software development as a core part of daily work.
- Implement requirements for web applications and digital media properties built primarily on Ruby on Rails.
- Partner with Product Managers, Project Managers, Solutions Architects, and creative teams to translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Develop scalable, high-performance applications tailored to unique client use cases.
- Ensure adherence to data security and privacy standards, implementing strong safeguards to protect sensitive information.
- Stay current with industry trends, tools, and best practices to inform technical and strategic decisions.
Technical Skills
- Bachelor s degree (or higher) in a STEM field
- 5+ years developing Ruby on Rails applications
- 5+ years working with React or comparable JavaScript front-end frameworks
- 5+ years supporting web applications on AWS
- 7+ years of formal development experience (Scrum, Waterfall, XP)
- 10+ years of server-side development experience
- 10+ years of client-side development: HTML, JavaScript, CSS, XML, JSON, jQuery
Competency Skills
- Deep expertise in Ruby on Rails
- Strong experience with AWS services (RDS, CloudFront, ECS, Lambda)
- Familiarity with AWS caching solutions
- Proficiency with Docker and AWS ECS for containerized environments
- Experience with authentication/authorization tools (SSO, OAuth, SAML)
- Knowledge of monitoring/alerting tools (PagerDuty, New Relic, Datadog, AWS CloudWatch)
- Strong understanding of the SDLC and methodologies such as Scrum, Waterfall, and XP
- Thorough knowledge of security best practices and information security standards
Interpersonal Skills
- Ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptionally detail-oriented and highly organized
- Comfortable using diverse tools, workflows, and processes
