About the Role:

We are seeking a seasoned Backend Architect with deep expertise in regulated financial systems and trading platforms to lead the backend architecture and development for a new Futures Commodity Commissions Market (FCM) application. This platform, envisioned as a regulated sports prediction market and Robinhood s Prediction Market, will be built for a large-scale financial trading domain.

The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience designing and scaling backend systems for high-performance, regulated environments particularly within trading, commodities, and financial services. This is a greenfield project that demands a high degree of architectural maturity, regulatory compliance knowledge (especially with CFTC and NFA), and scalable system design on AWS.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect and lead the backend development of a secure, scalable, and compliant trading platform supporting binary markets (e.g., sports future markets).
  • Design core backend components including:
    • Order Management System (OMS) for trade matching, limit order handling.
    • Clearing House Services to support efficient trade settlement.
    • Compliance Subsystems for Pre-Trade and Post-Trade checks including regulatory reporting and notifications.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders (product, compliance, and frontend engineering) to align backend architecture with business and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with frontend team (SwiftUI, Jetpack Compose, Next.js) to define and integrate backend APIs.
  • Ensure cloud-native deployment using AWS services (e.g., DynamoDB, Kafka, EC2, EKS).
  • Proactively identify opportunities to reuse open-source or commercial trading components to reduce build time.
  • Define data models and storage strategies suitable for low-latency, high-throughput trading.
  • Enforce security, reliability, and operational excellence best practices, including logging, monitoring, and failover strategies.
  • Provide architectural documentation, timelines, and effort estimation for the SOW.
  • Guide backend engineering teams (both onshore and offshore) through implementation, code reviews, and deployment readiness.

Technical Stack & Tools:

  • Languages: .NET Core, C++
  • Cloud: AWS (Public Cloud)
  • Data: Kafka, DynamoDB, Cloud-native data pipelines
  • Architecture: Microservices, event-driven systems
  • Compliance Frameworks: CFTC, NFA regulated architecture
  • DevOps: CI/CD on AWS, observability frameworks, logging, secure deployment pipelines

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in backend system design and architecture for high-volume applications.
  • Proven track record in building regulated financial platforms, particularly in trading, commodities, or exchange markets.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with C++ specifically on .NET, preferably in low-latency or high-throughput systems.
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory compliance frameworks such as CFTC, NFA, and familiarity with financial order routing, trade clearing, and KYC/AML protocols.
  • Experience with AWS cloud-native architecture, including Kafka and DynamoDB.
  • Ability to define MVP architecture that can evolve into scalable enterprise-grade systems.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills to collaborate with cross-functional and distributed teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working with or building systems for bidding.
  • Familiarity with sports betting, gaming, or prediction market platforms.
  • Exposure to federally regulated environments vs. state-by-state compliance models.
  • Experience integrating third-party systems, services, or platforms to accelerate development timelines.
