Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?
As a Data Engineering Director at Travelers, you'll lead our Business Insurance model implementation initiatives by bridging technical expertise with strategic vision. You'll lead and develop a growing engineering team while maturing our engineering practices to enable our pricing strategies across various insurance product lines (GL, Property, CMP, Specialty).
Your leadership will drive innovation in how we capture, process, and deliver data and model assets that empower our actuarial and data science partners. Beyond technical oversight, you'll champion data quality standards, implement MLOps best practices, and cultivate strong cross-functional relationships.
The ideal candidate combines technical data engineering expertise with the ability to translate complex business requirements into innovative solutions that demonstrate thought leadership. Your contributions will strengthen our pricing strategies in a dynamic insurance marketplace.

What Will You Do?
- Partner with Data Science and Actuarial Product teams to understand business requirements and translate them into robust data solutions for model development and analytic solutions in support of GL, Property, CMP, and Specialty
- Design and implement datasets that power analytical processes in support of BI's pricing strategies
- Execute data preparation including exploration, cleansing, and transformation to ensure high-quality inputs for pricing use cases with an understanding of enterprise architecture, consumption patterns, platforms and application infrastructure
- Embed data Management practices to maintain data quality and data governance standards
- Adopt MLOps practices throughout the model development lifecycle
- Manage the operationalizing and automating of all capabilities to ensure secure, supported and scalable solutions
- Provide data expertise within the BI analytics community, supporting pricing model delivery and educating users on strategic data sourcing
- Present analysis and recommendations to help influence management decisions
- Guide and coach team members to accelerate career development
- Establish team processes and procedures
- Maintain relationships with partner teams to ensure needs are met and impacted areas plan work accordingly
- Perform other duties as assigned
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Bachelor's Degree in STEM related field or equivalent
- Five or more years of related experience
- Two or more years of management experience
- Advanced knowledge of data tools, techniques, and manipulation including cloud platforms, programming languages, and technology platforms.
What is a Must Have?
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent training with data tools, techniques, and manipulation.
- Five years of data engineering or equivalent experience
