.Net/AWS Solution Architect

Position: .Net/AWS Solution Architect
Duration: 6+ months

Rate: $60/hr on W2 without benefits.

Location(s): Greensboro, NC. 3 days a week at least but likely will increase soon

Huge preference for the person to be local. Open to a relocate candidate if they can relocate within 1-2 months. Preference would be relocate and work onsite from day 1.

Must Have Requirements:

• C#, .NET
• Cloud experience is a MUST-- AWS preferred.
• Can break requirements down into specifications and some design. Need to be able to ask clarifying questions. Work with other architects on how to do it. Going from server-based to cloud based
• .Net, python. Typescript for IaC, All infra is code based. Server will be described as code
• Postgres for most things
• Old DB in Oracle that they are trying to get away from.

Plusses:

• Telematics experience or truck industry experience

Questions:

What is the breakdown of hands-on vs design work? More design work than anything. Coordinating with the development team and transition work to dev team. Might have to get hands on with a POC or if they have a quick turnaround-- really don't want them developing much.

Why python is requested? Python is used in the serverless tech stacks-- is a huge advantage because all serverless tech is using this.

Are you open to consider a lead/Sr dev that has architect applications before but not been a full solutions architect?

Prefer a tech expert or a true solutions architect? Has to be a solutions architect. No flex. They already have a lead/Sr dev on the team

Summary of the role:

• Architect that can come in and help design applications for the NA uptime services team. IT's changes to existing applications and new applications. AWS technologies. 25 people on dev team (8 and 10 split on agile teams), SA, enterprise arch, BA, automated testers, data analyst
• Agile, 2 week sprints, PI planning every 10 weeks
• Create all architectural diagrams to support requirements from the business- data flow, architectural app flow, requirements around requests, data points, high-level arch then to lower-level arch-- review with the architecture team. Familiar with what they do to be able to answer questions on their designs and flow.
• Security and data privacy-- need to be familiar with this for both new and old documentation
• Integration requests-- work with 3rd party teams and digital/IT
• CI/CD process
• EC2- a lot of windows services. A lot is written in C#.
• Understand AWS serverless-- Kinesis, Dockers, Event, Bridge
• High volume message processor-- have to understand how to manage and work around loopholes for high volume data processing
• A few front end apps, most is back-end data processing.
• Will participate in code reviews and provide guidance to developers
• Telematics is a plnice to have
• Python is used in the serverless tech stacks-- is a huge advantage because all serverless tech is using this.
• Dealing with networks is also a plus-- most is in the cloud but still have some on-prem

Issues he's seen with current candidates submitted:

• Solution application design architect NOT an Enterprise architect-- they have been burned in the past hiring an Enterprise architect.
• AWS Architect cert-- typically are working as a configuration manager rather than a Solutions Architect.

The Project:

• translate customer requirements and high-level architecture into detailed designs and help establish and enforce consistent use of development standards, design models, and code reuse. You will work with Product Owners and Digital Product Managers to break down tasks and provide estimates and work with Enterprise Architect to develop clear program specifications for developers and testers. This role will help assure application runtime environments stay current on supported software, develop mitigation plans to assure steady state of customer business systems and help assure system and technical solutions are made part of the long-term strategic development plan. You will also help ensure secure design of AWS environments and working with developers to promote Agile and DevOps practice.
• Application they are working on is likely bringing data in from the trucks and then getting it into the systemand then aggregating the data and disseminate it to other systems. Pipeline and creating services. Ingesting data, augment and create a new data set. Utilization, odometer, safety data, location, EV and DV data is different.

He prioritizes the experience with designing and breaking down requirements over exact tech stack. Probably a few years at least as an architect.

Is industry knowledge important? Does not matter if they have telematics experience (data coming from the vehicle). If we find them, they would likely be out of the price range. Might run across someone with truck experience exposure, but would be rare.
