Please note that this role is a 6 months contract position.

This role is ideally suited for someone located within driving distance of Council Bluffs, IA. The position involves frequent travel to project sites across the United States, with occasional travel to Canada and Mexico. A valid passport or willingness to obtain one is preferred.

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in the telecom industry

  • Strong experience with OTDR fiber testing

  • Experience in both ISP (Inside Plant) and OSP (Outside Plant)

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel)

  • Comfortable working with technical documentation and electronic data entry

  • Ability to read, understand, and troubleshoot test results

  • Willingness to travel weekly and potentially stay over weekends

  • Valid passport or willingness to obtain one (for Canada/Mexico travel)

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Splicing experience (strongly preferred for better candidate quality)

  • CD/PMD fiber testing experience

  • Familiarity with managing test results, fiber remediation procedures, and field vendor collaboration

Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel to assigned project locations (across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico) weekly. Travel typically starts Monday, with return by Friday, unless the project requires a longer presence.

  • Perform fiber characterization tests including:

  • OTDR

  • CD/PMD

  • Power meter/laser source

  • Fiber end-face inspection

  • Analyze and interpret test results; provide remediation support based on findings.

  • Prepare and maintain testing packages:

  • Redlining project documentation (fiber path, demarcation points)

  • Generating and submitting test reports per vendor standards

  • Managing field documentation and submitting to Project Manager

  • Conduct site surveys to validate infrastructure and identify issues.

  • Interface with vendors and ensure compliance with project and safety policies.

  • Collaborate with project manager and teammates, communicating testing outcomes and field conditions effectively.
