Job Description
BAE Systems Ordnance Systems Inc. (OSI) has an incredible story to tell - from our mission to our people. This position reports directly to the OSI Communications Director, and is responsible for supporting internal and external communications strategies, programs, and tactics that promote, protect, and enhance the reputation and capabilities of BAE Systems OSI.

We are looking for the right teammate who is passionate about our mission, collaborative and creative. This role has a broad range of responsibilities that support national security. We are looking for a candidate to make an immediate impact at a leading defense company with a global footprint. This individual will work to implement timely and effective communications plans, maintain relationships with OSI business functions, and develop and distribute internal newsletters and business announcements to internal audiences. The ideal candidate will have strong public relations and written communications skills and a keen business mindset. The candidate who fills this role will have the opportunity to learn communications and business skills and tactics through this unique experience in the defense industrial base.

Location/Schedule/Travel:
  • This role will be based out of Radford, VA
  • This role is a Remote/Hybrid position where you will work 3 days onsite and 2 days remote weekly on average
  • There may be 10% travel to Kingsport, TN or corporate offsites
Responsibilities:
  • The Communications Manager will support both internal and external communications efforts for OSI.
  • They will support the writing, development and deployment of internal communications through newsletters, standalone emails, and town halls.
  • They will support media engagement at the local level. This includes drafting media statements and releases.
  • They will be responsible for developing copy to support social media campaigns.
  • They will coordinate across the business to manage the public release approval process for news releases and other key collateral and content.
  • They will support Community Investment at the local level.
  • They will need to demonstrate strong collaboration behaviors, both within the OSI business area but also with the customer and colleagues in the corporate communications function.
  • Areas of expertise: Public Relations, Writing, Communications Strategy.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or English with 4 years of relevant experience or equivalent experience.
  • A storyteller with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to formulate a clear point of view on complicated issues, and create a concise and well-written narrative.
  • Attentive to detail with solid editing skills.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with varying personalities across all functions.
  • Ability to build relationships and drive positive engagement from a diversified and widespread workforce.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Experience in internal and external communications strategy.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Strong business acumen.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $71600 - $121700

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
