Director of Data Science
Salt Lake City, Utah
6-month contract-to-Hire
$95 to $100 per hour contract with a conversion salary of $190K to $200k annually + bonus

Summary
We're looking for a seasoned Data Science leader who can set the vision, elevate analytics maturity, and drive measurable business impact through advanced modeling and machine learning. This role is ideal for someone who blends strategic thinking with hands-on technical depth, leads high-performing teams, and excels at partnering across the organization to turn data into decisions.

Responsibilities
  • Define and execute the long-term data science strategy aligned to business priorities.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data scientists.
  • Partner with data engineering, product, and business stakeholders to uncover opportunities and solve complex problems.
  • Select and validate modeling approaches, tools, and frameworks while staying ahead of emerging technologies.
  • Build evaluation methods to measure model performance, business impact, and resource effectiveness.
  • Guide data-driven decision-making by interpreting advanced analytics and recommending actionable insights.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of data science initiatives-from concept through model development and deployment.
  • Present insights and recommendations to senior leadership in a clear, compelling manner.
  • Cultivate a culture of experimentation, rapid learning, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (Master's or PhD preferred).
  • 5+ years leading or managing data science or analytics teams.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in data science or advanced analytics.
  • Strong programming skills and deep expertise in statistical modeling and machine learning.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) and big-data ecosystems.
  • Understanding of modern MLOps practices.
  • Proven ability to build strategy, solve complex problems, and translate analytics into business impact.
  • Exceptional communication skills with confidence presenting to executives.
  • Highly collaborative, accountable, and proactive in driving initiatives forward.
Bonus Skills
  • Experience building partnerships across multiple business groups.
  • Background in roadmap planning or analytics product ownership.
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping and experimentation frameworks.
